I know next to nothing about Anime and haven't really developed any particular tastes.

I've seen quite a few episodes of Full Metal Alchemist (all of them I think,...there may be some obscure or different series that I've missed). I liked it.

I've seen Akira and liked it,...

I watched an episode of Initial D and I could see myself getting into that.

But that's about it.

Oh can't forget MD Geist.

I think last exile is on there now. That series is fantastic. I liked gunslinger girl. Everyone harps on how good claymore is but i thought it sucked. Ill look and see what i find.

I really am at a loss of what makes Anime good or bad. What do the connoisseurs look for?

I'm not sure what's on netflix, and I'm not a "Anime Person."

However, I recommend:

FLCL (6 episode mini-series)
Any Miazaki movie

I walked in on my friends watching Akira when they were halfway through. I asked what was going on, and they said, "We have no idea." I need to watch the whole thing some time.

I look for story first. If i can stand more than two episodes thats usually a good sign. Some animes are just so fucking stupid i cant do it....but these some are so stupid that its awesome. Also not being really generic helps. Im not a big fan of anything involving big robots for the most part. Im not really a fan a good bit of shit on netflix..

I really want to see FLCL from the beginning. I caught a few episodes while it was on Adult Swim earlier this decade. Unfortunately it's DVD only. I need to get an external HD and start torrenting some of this stuff.
