Meh, older blues artists "stole" songs from each other all of the time. Zeppelin did them better than anyone else ever could, so poop on them. :p

i think of Zeppelin as a necessity, but not necessarily the best.

because without them, we wouldn't have Birds of Maya. and Birds of Maya are awesome.

Every time I hear that whiny warble out of Joan Baez, I want to punch her in the mouth.

Seriously, stealing music is the industry standard nowadays. Kanye does it all the time and he's a so-called "genius" (mostly by himself).

Public Enemy and Girl Talk are the only two groups to do sampling with some sort of artistic merit.

wooooooahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

sampling happens all the time, especially in rap and hiphop with varying degrees of success. ...but girl talk and public enemy are not the only two to do it well. in fact, a lot of mashup connoisseurs will argue that girl talk does not at all do it well. (although i like him anyway)

and it's totally different from what led zep did. lol.

i like girl talk too. i like the abc + bohemian rhapsody mix.

but my cousin flips shit anytime someone mentions him because he 'takes the easy way out', since he normally does instrumental + rap. he doesn't have to worry about matching up key signatures and shit. thennnn again my cousin is kind of a douchebag.

You're right. Zep could actually play music. Throwing a drum beat or chorus from another song over a simple synth bass-line isn't any sort of display of talent.

I saw Girl Talk live in Minneapolis, he was like a sweaty laptop-wielding Jesus. Also, Dan Deacon and Tay Zonday(aka Chocolate Rain) opened for him. Good show. If he dealt with key signatures, he wouldn't be able to fit as many songs together and it'd just be typical one song plus another.
