okay, heres the skinny:
friend who hasn't played in ages, used to mod the shit out of MIJ Gibson copies n stuff, wants to start playing again.
she's looking for something versatile and modern with humbuckers. no tremolo, and a price cap of $500.
make magic, people

also, i'm trying to convince her to join ILF even though she uses a laptop more than pedalz, its just FUTURE PEDALZ

First thing that comes to mind is an Epiphone Les Paul, or a Squier Vntage Modified thin line tele, I'd get one of those myself, Some of the ESP guitars are pretty cool to, my Rhythm guitarist has one, besides for that I can't think of any, I would say a new Fender Blacltop Strat, bt it has a tremelo. I'd search on Craig's List and Ebay, and even Pawn shops in your area, happy hunting and good luck.

I'm thinking of getting rid of my '96 Fender Am Std Strat (50th Anniversary). It's baby blue and I replaced the stock pups with a Duncan humbucker in the bridge, although its been so long I forget what exact model (bought in 97), and another one that I pulled out of a cheap Ibanez for the neck, with the stock single coil in the middle. I didn't have to cut the guitar or anything because it has the bucket type cut for the pickups. The pickguard on it is a mirror green and it's really gorgeous. Also has sperzel locking tuners and although it has a tremolo, I have it firmly planted because I had a crazy metal band and hated going out of tune and it never does.
I have all the original hardware as well, molded case, white pickguard, stock single coils, original tuners, all that. The guitar has not been modified in any way except that I played the shit out of it for many years and the body shows it, but it plays well all the way up the neck.
If you think she'd be interested I can work within your stated budget. PM if so. If not I'll probably put this guitar on the B/S/T forum.

Blacktop Jaguar. You won't find better for $450.
Or Telecaster if she's set on a classic shape. But damn. JAGUAR. IN SILVER.

That has nothing that she wants feature-wise?
If she was going for vintage, finicky, and a trem, yeah. It would work.
But when I think "modern with a stop tail" a Kimberly Apollo isn't exactly the first thing that pops into my head.

exactly, but i'm chattin with her, and apparently she doesn't mind teisco trems, because she used to own some. and we're looking at some videos for the pickups, and they sound like what she's going for.
