I don't think I understand what this thing is all about... all I know is that it has something to do with homosexuals in the military. By the name of it, it doesn't sound like a bad idea: The officials don't ask if you're gay and you don't tell? That way there's no discrimination...??
Feel free to correct me.

you'd think it would be like that, but it's actually really dumb. if you were found (or suspected) to be gay you were not allowed to serve. there could be no openly gay soldiers.
now lgbt soldiers don't have to be afraid they'll be discharged constantly.
baby jesus wills it!

Yeah, all DADT meant was that they couldn't directly investigate whether you were gay or not (believe it or not, they really did used to investigate this shit). But if you outed yourself, or if someone else did, you were still discharged. It was still bullshit.

It's just a wedge issue as is any issue dealing with "morality". All it does is divide people and deflect attention away from actual issues.
My stance on gays in the military has always been the same as Bill Hicks'. "Anyone dumb enough to want to join the military,...should be allowed."

Only partly true, she wasn’t a prostitute prior to the revisions to the bible made around 1k years later.
Much like Jezebel whose original name meant virgin of BAL, but graffiti found on walls had letters added changing it to the current version “Whore of Babylon”.
Hmm ….
Don’t get me stared on all the other Messiah Cults complete with assorted miracles and rising from the dead.
And the other religions are myths because of what unbelievable stories?
As an added bonus boys and girls, “Don’t ask don’t tell” was the Clinton admin’s solution to the no gays in the military rules.
It just meant no one could ask you if you are gay or not and you didn’t have to tell any one either way.
So repeal wouldn’t mean squat. What they needed to do and may have done is lift the restrictions on gays serving in the military.
Of course most of our politicians and news media people are way too stupid to understand this distinction.

Gays shouldn't join the army.
Nor should anyone else.

Actually...
As I understand it, DADT ended the outright ban on gays in the military, but it had to remain secret; and repeal of DADT means gays can serve openly.
I really doubt nobody would have picked up on the fact the repeal would have made it worse.
