Ok, I can dig that there are a number of people and cultures worldwide that are justifiably angry with the US' foreign interference and policies but seriously - what would be accomplished by this act of random terrorism? What message is being sent? I wish that people would think just a little bit more about viable solutions to the problems in the world and a little bit less about expressing their anger in stupid ways. I'm glad this guy was caught and I hope that the gov't finds a way to stop all of this nonsense without imposing heavy restrictions and further invading the privacy of decent citizens.

Here's the FBI press release on the arrest.

http://portland.fbi.gov/dojpressrel/pressrel10/pd112610.htm

From what I can make of it, the suspect was trying to contact people in Pakistan to help commit an act of terrorism, but was unsuccessful. The FBI then stepped in, pretended to be the overseas contact, and set up everything from then on.

if the headline read "19 year old suicide bomber..."

i instantly assume the next lines are "was arrested today"

also the sad thing is that logistically, even RANDOM acts of terrorism are effective if they happen by the base definition of terrorism. its pretty sad because even aknowledging it, and saying "im not afraid" already creates a not-afraid v making-you-afraid dichotomy that can only be reinforced.

which is why despite being totally hella bomb compared to other times, the modern world is paranoid as a manic depressive chihuahua in the vet's office.

Is it sad if my first thought upon reading about this was "Merry Christmas!"?
