I work at a Whole Foods in a university town, and that kind of cell phone use here is a pandemic. At first it annoyed me, but now it's only fascinating. If there is one thing that cell phones do perfectly, it is highlight the human condition.

Most humans are lonely, dumb, and in constant need of validation. You could be with the most amazing, beautiful, intelligent, wonderful person in the world, and your fucking text message from someone three miles away telling you "im bord" or "wat r u dion" would be more important to you. The sorostitutes especially... those shitty, vacuous, apathetic girls who ALL LOOK EXACTLY THE SAME... they are the loneliest of all. One of their hands may be "free", but the other is CONSTANTLY caressing whatever little box is telling them things. People on breaks no longer talk to other team members, they sit and stare at their phones. Also amazing to see people that are like 75 on cellphones or with BlueTooth things in their ears... it shows as well that people don't grow up. Most adults are selfish, immature children that have just been around longer than other people. These things are toys, and they show just how thoughtless and dependent supposed "adults" are... all the worst features of a bratty child with none of the imagination or sense of humor.

Is it possible that these people are so insecure and afraid of existence itself that they'll do anything not to have to listen to their own thoughts? Do they hate themselves that much that they must be constantly distracted from the pain of consciousness?

I dare anyone to tell me that when Apple comes out with the technology to have some sort of "smartphone" implanted into your brain so you're constantly connected to... well... whatever it is that people are connected to, that millions of people won't take it. It will be cheap, it will be easy, and it will stop you from ever having to think about yourself.

I have a cell phone, but texts are blocked, and I treat it like one of those fun shit-yellow twirly-corded phones from the 80s... it never leaves my house.

I'm not at all jaded like I sound... I'm not even cynical... I just find it infinitely humourous and fascinating, especially how our lives ARE science fiction (or at least the themes, just without the robots and space wars). If anything, I'm more like "Welp." with hands thrown up in the air. These idiots don't stop me from doing any of the things I want to do, so fuck 'em. Do what you want!

I have some cheapie cell-phone for emergencies. I hardly ever use it. I'm not going to deny they have their uses (just like facebook and whatnot) but letting cell-phones (or facebook and whatnot) rule your life is faintly worrying and at times when you're talking to someone it is just downright disrespectful. I mean surely that sms can wait half a minute what are the chances of it actually being your mother who fell off the stairs or something. And if it can't you could at least have the courtesy to politely ask if you could end the conversation instead of just completely ignoring everything else.
