Yep, this is exactly how I feel about Gorillaz. I don't think there's any going back to their old style, though.

Demon Days + Debut >>>>>>> Plastic Beach IMHO but there were a few good tracks on PB as well. (Empire Ants, Some Kind of Nature)
But all in all the shows must have been spectacular and living legends like Paul Simonon were there!

oh yeah, Empire ants is great, i love the synthesizers

Also Rhinestone Eyes weren't so bad (again - great synth sounds)
the old style was so different - i don't get it. It was so... dark and intimate... now it sounds mostly like some stupid rap circus... (don't misunderstand me - i like rap... it just has to be good...)

i like demon days best, actually. i felt like their debut had a lot of kick ass songs but it wasn't all that coherent, but i also feel like my musical tastes were VERY different when that first album came out, so that probably has a lot to do with it.
the setlist was a pretty even distribution amongst all three records. when kano and bashy came out for clint eastwood i was terrified, but they kicked some serious ass.

i with everyone here who was disappointed with the new album BUT i don't doubt they put on one hell of a live show..... for the longest time there was a recording of their live show at the Apollo in '06 circulating on cable and i'd end up watching it all the way through... great performance.... show must have been amazing, but new album is meh.....

no, i don't... there are some good songs as stated above, but there are some songs that sound to me like a stupid modern rap for kids playing big pimps in their grandpa's cellar
as deadbeatriot said, first album lacks coherency to him.... that's exactly what i feel like about the Plastic Beach

their first album sounded like drugs. it's a radical departure from their initial style. no big deal, i just like the first album better. i'm not like.. pissed. their newer albums were just a little more "like-able" i'd say.
