random music statistics about yourself?

ok so i was thinking about it earlier today...
i remember the day i woke up and decided i wanted to become a pianist... i've been playing piano since i was 17 so i'm at my 10 year (wow!) reunion!

i started playing in bands pretty much one year after i started playing my instrument and since then...
i've probably practiced piano/keyboards alone or in rehearsal for 15,000-20,000 hours and have had at least 2000 rehearsals.
i've played in 12 bands or so (each played at least 3 gigs... one-offs don't count!)
i have played over 500 but less than 600 shows for anywhere from 0 to more than 10,000 people in 48 states, close to 20 countries and probably 300-400 cities.
i have probably traveled over 100,000 miles for those shows, stopped at over 1000 gas stations and personally driven over 1000 hours.
i've owned close to 30 keyboards, 10 amps and probably 50-70 pedals over the years that i played/used regularly.

i'm curious about others!

I think you put most of us to shame with the first post

I started playing guitar at the age of 12, which was 19 years ago
Started playing primarily bass in my junior year of college, so that's 10 years ago. Starting playing keyboard/synth 2 years later.

I've been in 6 bands, but only 4 gigged out. I've probably only played about 25 gigs or so in my entire life, but I have never felt any sort of stage fright about it, even at my first one. Even then, I knew that 90% of people in the crowd will never realize 90% of your fuck-ups

I've owned 10 guitars, 5 basses, 2 keyboards/synths, 7 amps, 2 electric mandos, 2 electric violins and probably getting close to 80 pedals at this point.

The farthest I've ever traveled to gig is about 2.5 hours away. Pretty lame, actually :grumpy:

I started playing bass at 18 and have been off and on playing it for well over 10 years, this last year being the best I have sounded played in my life. This year I have probably clocked well over a 100 hours playing bass consistently which has been an awesome achievement for me.

Been in 2 bands and played over 30 shows in the Portland Oregon area in from 1990 to 2000 and played another 10 in 05 and 06. I have cut 2 full length CD's none ever singed an or released.

I have owned over 18 pedals, 4 that I currently own, been through about 10 basses, currently owning two. 3 different bass rigs have owned or stolen from me. I now rock a 15w amp.

I don't move mountains but I am very proud of what I have accomplished thus far.

guitar when 12, a little bit of bass, a little piano/keyboards.
drums when 14.
computer/midi for maybe a year or two now.
3 guitars.
2 midi controllers.
1 bass.
some drums.
18 pedals so far. some broken.
3 ds-1s. all modded.
10 bands in total. only 2 or three have played more than one show. 1 only had one practice
3 are currently active.
2 solo projects. idea for third.

I've been playing (guitar) longer than any of my friends, and am probably the least musically competent out of any of them, and I like it like that.

Let's see here...
Started playing guitar when I was about 14, played pretty consistently, due to having some like-minded friends in highschool.
Switched to bass at about 17 or so..was in a short-lived band, cut a single and released it independently. (basically just selling them to locals)
Played acoustic guitar all during this time, still do.
Just got my first really nice electric (it's custom..so... :thumb:  :thumb: )
Hoping to get a band put together now that I'm graduated and have a little bit of time on my hands while I search for a job. :hello:

I started playing guitar and bass around the same time and have been playing for around 17 years. Completely self taught listening to Pavement/Pixies/Nirvana records. I've only been in two bands. Guitar/singer/song writey guy in both. One was pretty good. We were in the process of being signed when we broke up. Shortly after that band broke up, all of my pedals and most of my guitars were stolen. All I had left were an MXR Dyna Comp, my JC-120 and my grandfather's guitar. The band breaking up coupled with the thievery and other "life things" made me give up on music completely. I've only somewhat (not quite) recently got back into writing and playing frequently again. I've got 5-6 DVD-Rs full of song ideas, but just can't seem to finish anything anymore. Music is the only thing that I have ever been passionate about and I hope to non-god that I can do it again. Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.

tl;dr - I like burritos and sunshine! And robots!

I've owned 6 guitars, 3 basses, 30+ pedals and 3 amplifiers. Various recording equipment, midi controllers, etc..
Slowly rebuilding my pedal collection. Currently own 7 (including that Dyna Comp). I only really use 5 of them.
I'm unsure how many shows I've played, but it's quite a lot for only two bands. Have had a few "mini tours". Farthest I've gone is to New York for a single show.

I started playing bass at 13.
I've been in 3 bands... still play with 2, both for almost ten years.
I do more studio stuff then live.
I have three of my own projects going.
I've been dabbling in music & video for about 8 years.
I have built around 12 instruments plus a "few" frankies.
I own over 70 pedalz.
I always use tube amps, have 7 of them.

I started playing violin when I was 7, gave it up when I was 17 when i discovered the Electric Guitar and haven't touched the violin ever since, even though i still own it. Have been in about 5 bands, but the one Im in now is the best although we're too lazy/stoned/busy to rehearse or gig that often. We supported local band Custard, who went on to big name nobodies on JJJ, and have had the PA switched off on us once and power once (from 5 gigs with current band) because we were too loud  I own about 60 pedals, 9 guitars, 2 basses, 8 analog synths, 4 amps and a recording studio worth of preamps/mics/compressors etc. I think I'll always make music, but sometimes feel the GAS distracts me from the actual creation of music...

I am a size 6; I like long walks on the beach with a special friend.
I want world peace
And I believe children are brightest hope for our future.

Oh wait that’s Miss America.

I play bass, all I’ve ever really wanted to play is bass and bass like instruments).
I saw Fats Domino when I was a kid and the sound and look of the bass player was the coolest thing I’d ever seen.
They (not the ominous “They” of the conspiracy people, but my parents and local music teacher) thought I’d be better off playing cello.
I wasn’t and couldn’t communicate what I wanted to do to an adult who listened to Lawrence Welk.

Skip ahead 10 or so years. I bought a Bradly bass, and an amp.
Upgraded to a Jazz and Ampeg, and have been playing freaking loud for decades.

I still can’t communicate with “adults”

I don't think I could round out hours,...etc but here is how it went for me.

When I was 5 I told my grandmother I wanted to play an instrument. This was precipitated because she had a toy box that was an over turned bass drum and what I really should have said was,...can I empty the toy box and bang on the drum. A few months later there was a baby grand piano in our house and I was taking lessons. I took piano lessons for 9 years (to this day all I remember is The Entertainer, but a few years ago I sat down and learned how to play Radiohead's Everything in it's Right Place from the Kid A sheet music book).

So that takes me up to around 14 years old when I quit taking lessons (I never really progressed much past an intermediate stage,...fucking theory :erm: ) I made the immediate switch to Bass guitar and within a month of getting a cheapo P style bass from a pawn shop I was playing to Pearl Jam and Metallica albums  <-- to Metallica,...I still actually like Pearl Jam.

Since the late 90's I've been in seven bands; none of which have seen any sort of success,...I've had affairs with guitar, was given a piano of the exact same spinet model that I learned on (<--Lester Spinet that I inherited from my Great Grandmother) that still needs to be tuned and along the way learned how to play Digderidoo and singing bowls, picked up an interest in vintage synths and continue to be a broke ass ho. Thankfully my wife has a good job.

:omg:
