Anyone dabble in the drums along with the fuzz? I am starting my journey into playing the drums and i was wondering if there are any others.

I recently got a set and have started playing.

HT warned me, and he was right, that buying cymbals is as addictive as buying pedals.

I love teh drums. Used to have a kit but sold it many years ago.

I will have another some day... some day...

I'm pretty hardcore into percussion. I've never really sat down with a kit, but I have a total hard on for any cool electronic percussion instrument (love my Shake<3 box). Acoustic guitars work great for that too if they have piezos. ^_^

I have been known to play some drums. Started about 2 years ago.

Joined my friends' band as the drummer with no prior experience. We all agreed I could just "learn as I go." Tonnes of Fun.

Sometimes it can become more often than guitar...

I actually prefer to play drums in bands rather than guitar a lot of the time, I don't really have space right now so I'm very limited to when I can play

basically I have a low end shell pack with a bunch of cool stuff, put the 16 inside the bass, gives it some freakin awesome tones
when I use a tom it's usually the 13" rack tom on a snare stand, no floor tom...just because I have no money and I could never get the other rack tom to sound decent
my preferred ride is a 20" A Ping, I almost bought a used A Custom but it was just too bright, I also use a 20" AAX stage ride, both and no crash
I have an old zbt 17" crash that my friend cracked, so I stacked a cracked 8" wuhan splash on it, so awesome sounding
I have a pair of A Mastersound 14s on the way but am currently using A Quick Beats, the top is pretty freakin nice but the bottom is too flat for me, I dont dig it at all so I use an old ZBT top, a splash or whatever else I can find as the bottom.

I love snares, I own 5 at this point but only 2-3 worth mentioning
all are 13s, Tama Starclassic EFX maple, Yamaha Musashi oak, Pearl steel piccolo
the Starclassic and the Musashi both need some Fyberskin heads, they currently have a power center and a coated ambassador respectively
the pearl has a coated ambassador as well but loves it t'da'max

I play drums kinda. I always wanted to play but my folks were not kind to the idea of their presence in the house so I got a bass instead. Years later I would jump on whatever kit I could to try, get embarrassed and stop. So when I was maybe 23, I tried to play on my drummer's kit and was laughed out of the room. I don't know if anyone remembers those old ads in comic books for Charles Atlas, "Hey quit kicking that sand in our faces!", so I resolved to get kinda good. I walked around my job at a pet shop all day thinking about Shudder To Think's "Pony Express Record" over and over again and playing air drums, much to the amusement of my boss, but fuck him. Maybe 3 months later I sat behind that same kit and was really good kinda! I learned in my head, like that study where a group of people that practices free throws was equaled in competition by a group that only thought about free throws, but both groups way more than the third group that only thought about crack.

Anyway, if I told a bunch of drummers that I was one of them I'd be lying and exposed. But I can play strong beats for 10 hours with some stank. Along the way I picked up a great '65 Ludwig jazz kit for $450 bucks. Small kick, mother of pearl, sounds great since I learned how to tune them.

I just always liked musicians that did it all themselves like Stevie Wonder. Grohl too. About 12 years ago my band was playing alot around NJ with a band called Supergrub. They were black dudes, the drummer was Chuck Treece, who played with all kinds of good people including the Bad Brains. The singer/guitarist was this kid from Jersey named Ben, who now plays bass for Incubus. They put out a record of all the songs that they played live, melodic, very Husker Du-ish. But reading the notes I saw that of the 10 songs, Ben and Treece each recorded five songs on their own playing guit/bass/drums/vox, I guess it was a long-distance thing or whatever. But I was very inspired by that. I've been more inspired by the local bands I saw and played with growing up than any known band.

The drums were actually the very first instrument that I played. I probably beat the skins at least once or twice a week, in various styles. I do a bunch of session work in Toronto & Montreal with various instruments.

There's something that's so much more satisfying about playing the drums... maybe it's the workout. I also enjoy the idea of not being in teh spotlight and just being able to zone out and do my thing, compete against myself and not have to interact/entertain the crowd.

I've been playing for about 5 years now, until about a year ago I was one of our scenes few drummers.

I don't use a crash, and I could really care less about what types of heads, cymbals I use, as long as they sound good.

I use a cheap lower end shell set as well, browse pawnshops and musicgoround for the best/cheapest cymbals I can get my hands on and I'm very pleased with how this sounds.





I only have one snare drum now...I got rid of my others because I completely fell in love with my 70's acrolite.
I gave my last 10 lug steel to my brother for his birthday, could use another one of those still.

Drums were the one instrument I never conquered! So now I must conquer it plus I wanna do a one man band and I need to be able to play the drums myself! My goal is... Sludge/Doom metal in 6 months, Blasting in 1 year
