I've heard there are a few of these knocking about.

I kind of want one done, but I've heard the gate might affect the tone quite a bit. Is there any way to avoid this? How does it change it?

I like both the sound of the TP and Aenima. However, when I had an Aenima before it was quite noisy? It'd be cool to have both sounds in the same box. The TP sounds good for an Electric Wizard kind of fuzz and the Aenima has a more distortion-like voicing.

Someone please have an answer to this! I would also like to know the secret of the gate. I would love to add a gate to a TP, or possibly be able to adjust the amount of gate in my US. The ability to install a gate pot would be ideal, really. I compared the TP/AE and US schematics to see what differences are in the US that might cause its gate, but there are two removed components (a cap and a resistor) and another cap and resistor that are of different values. What part of this causes the gate in the US? I know that a cap and a resistor together forms a sort of filter, right? But I don't understand how or what part of these components causes the gate. Someone with more circuit knowledge please check this out!

BUMP! Someone PLEASE analyze this circuit and tell us where the gate lies (and tell sockgazer how the gate will affect the tone). I'm really dying to find this out!

my first thought is to wire up a switch to take the cap and resistor that are removed in the US out of the circuit

i dont know alot about electronics

but maybe the us is so gainy from the get go so it breaks the gate
it kinda sounds like the gate is changing when you turn it all the way up anyway u kinda get some bzzzzzzzzzzzzzz noises goin on

sometime in the next few weeks when I get the time (and my parts arrive!), I'm hoping to breadboard this and fuck around with the variables a bit. If I determine anything conclusive, I'll be sure to post my results.

I'm not totally sure if "Remove for US" would mean jumper or remove. I'd assume you remove those to components, and you're just left with the 100K feedback resistor. If that's the case, less resistance there would result in less gain. Less gain = more gate.

The .01 uF cap would also reduce the input signal.

I'm not really sure what that small cap does.

If you wanted to add a gate, you could probably add a 100K pot to ground before the second 2N2222A, and it would be variable. I doubt it would effect the sound too much when all the way up.

The cap and resistor that are marked with an asterisk are removed, while the other cap and resistor are replaced by ones of different values.
