Update on the pedal I ordered from Poland : the sender was able to ship it without playing double the cost of the pedal itself! Get fucked USA.

 :picard:

I'll throw up pics when it arrives. It has a really sick acid etch design that y'all would love.

i can't record the SDS + 606 quasi-loop i still have going because i only have one 3.5 mm-to-1/4" adapter which is needed to run output into the DR-07, and it's currently running the output from the SDS (which irritatingly only has 3.5 mm in/outs for modular guys) into the mixer. i'm afraid i'll cock it up if i turn the power off, so i just leave the synth and drum machine running and turn off the rack effects or amplifier. i really need to run this through the bass amp because i know there's low-frequency content the Princeton can't reproduce even when i crank the low bands on the parametric. the loop is odd because i didn't exactly match the tempo so the synth more or less plays a bar of 8 and a bar of 7 (or maybe 7.5) according to the drum machine and the whole thing is always in the process of changing slightly. it really appeals to the Steve Reich fan in me. where the heck to you go to get adapters like this now that Radio Shack has bitten the dust? it'd be nice to be able to go to a store and grab one rather than dicking around for days waiting for Amazon or eBay to come through. i used to have several of them, but somewhere along the road they apparently disappeared.

in the meantime i'm enjoying the luxury of practicing guitar to a steady beat, where i usually just noodle to the tempo in my head. the Normie Board is a bit limited for this setting, but it's what was easiest to set up since it was already in the living room. i need the big board and/or the FEB (hereafter, "the lo-fi board") on the guitar to mangle the signal more than i can do with the standard rock-and-roll effects on the NB. i have a reverb up on the Yamaha with a 1.6 second decay and the #45 Bloom patch on the MV II and boy howdy, does it sound cavernous. Becky said it sounds "mysterious." i think it sounds like hip-hop in outer space. i am fucking dying to get the Lexicon unit and the second parametric EQ so i have even more sounds and a rack that can run in stereo for recording purposes, and i have to get a new rack because the SPX900 is so deep from front to back that it sticks out about an inch from the open back of my current rack. it's not safe to transport like that.

i also want to get that sequence recorded so i can mess with the SDS and make it do more weird things. it really is impressively varied for a cheapo-cheapo synth module. i have no idea of how it compares to other modules other than that the SDS seems designed to be easy to get cool sounds by fucking around with it. i really don't see getting into modular at this point simply because it's too much additional stuff to deal with. but i'm having a lot of fun with the One Module. they supposedly have a filter coming this summer, but i'll need convincing that i actually need another one when i have the So High So Low and the Snazzy FX filter thingy. i didn't expect to become a filter nerd in my old age.

I made a pretty big gear purchase for 2025 and bought a fireface UFX (it was very expensive). I have been playing more and more acoustic instruments so it feels valuable to have something trouble-free to use for recording things with. I also have a pair of lineaudio om1s coming in the duhhull, nothing says suit-recorderist like a pair of hifi SDC omnis.

However havning a good-quality interface has made me want to get stuff to interface my nice acoustic recordings with nasty pedal stuff to make weird silent hill sample loops with

one interesting thing about the SDS is that the waveforms for Oscillators 1 and 2 are different. some of them, like the ones in the loop, are more or less the reverse of each other and when adjusted just right set up moving patterns as they fade in/out of each other. i really like the sloooooow speeds because i can get long drawn-out drones, but i'm very curious as to the kinds of weirdball modulations and wave clashes available at higher tempi.

After some research I ended up grabbing a Line 6 HX Stomp and some DT770 headphones. All of my amp and big pedalboard stuff is located in a shred shed I built that, whilst awesome, is not a place I get to go to often with a 2,5 year old and a 2 month old. So, this should be something small yet somewhat deep that I can play and mess with at night for 30 minutes before bed without waking everyone up. They've have done so many great updates to the unit since the launch many moons ago. I'm pretty excited.

Feel like I'm gonna have to go this route pretty soon. Same situation, all the good stuff is outside in my lair. And sometimes a bitch doesn't want to be up outside hella late sooooo

i'm not sure where else to post it, but i was talking about the rack and the SDS here so. i finally got a version of the synth/drums quasi-loop recorded. i had all kinds of no fun trying to figure out a variety of issues, but finally got things settled so the effects send and return were getting good signal. i recorded this out of the Monitor output of the line mixer, which works pretty well though i had to be careful setting levels. i tried to fade in/out with the Record Level control, but it introduces randomly placed dropouts and i don't have a sound editor on the work computer so i can't tweak it there either. so the track cuts in and cuts out. i realize this is totally elementary to some of you who've been twiddling synths for decades, but i'm still chuffed that i found something cool to do with the SDS that's below surface level. the low end doesn't come across on laptop speakers well, but it's good with headphones.

i’m still kind of stuck GAS-wise because i can’t afford the rack upgrades i want to do. or more accurately i’m more interested in spending on guitars.

What rack upgrades are you looking at?

8u rack with latching covers to replace the 6u home unit i currently have, and hopefully a decent Lexicon unit and a 2d parametric EQ like my SP15 so i can record in stereo. rack = $125-150, EQ about $250, Lexicon varies depending on the unit.

i should do user presets on the SPX900, but at the moment i’m a bit worn out.

my concept for the rack is mainly to use for the plethora of reverbs, and also for modulation and other FX that i can apply to keys, drums, voice etc. so i have an alternative to running everything through the boards.

Well, I am giving Meris their big chance to make a fanboy out of me. I traded my H90 for a Mercury X and a Fuzzface. Then I saw an Enzo X on Reverb and grabbed it too. I hope I like the X interface as I am sure the sound will be great.

Those are some great presets, man! It's good to know that it can get pretty out there and not just do the traditional stuff well, as is the focus of most of the demos I've seen. I've already thought of a bunch of strange effect combinations and routings I want to mess with.
