Basic Effect Chain?

What is a good, basic bass effect chain? Brand, item name, what effect it is? I play metal, 60's-70's rock, nirvana-type rock, and some funk. Please help, as I want to get a good chain started soon.
Please list: brand, item name, what effect it is, and where to get it

Thanks,
Zack

Budget?
Basic bass stuff for most gigging bassist of most styles is:
Fuzz, Overdrive, Filter, phase/chorus/flanger/tremolo, Compressor. Order depends on your needs.
There are lots of brands... And everyone has their own idea of what they like.
For me and others to really nail it down for you I/we would have examples of what tones you actually like.

Fuck the people who say that a specific effect order is key. Make your own and you'll be 10x happier with it.
Alternatively, what pedals do you have/want?

Budget for me is a big issue...I'm 15, which means I can't drive to a job, so I don't have one; although I do mow yards in my neighbor hood making about $80 a week...Right now my BUDGET IS $120. Then again, I just bought a BOSS FZ-5 ($100), which I am willing to trade for a EHX Bass Big Muff Pi.

I have a BOSS FZ-5 Fuzz (which I don't like and would trade for a EHX Bass Big Muff Pi any day), and I don't really know what I want (other than a large collection of fuzz)...maybe a chorus and a echo?

Ok then. First, used is your friend for gear on a budget. Look at older DOD stuff like the FX 35, 25, 75... can't remember the phase or chorus #... If you really want a BBM I'll sell you mine for $50 just to be rid of the thing.
But

again

what sounds

are

YOU wanting to get?

list songz

If you're interested in muff on the cheap I would grab a Little Big Muff. These can easily be had for $50 or so if you look around AND I like them TONNES better than a BBM. I'm a bassist too.
But it does indeed help us to help you if we know what sorts of TONEZ you're hoping to find....

The Bass Big Muff is pretty good and was my first fuzz. It's great for loud sections, though it does like to engulf chords a bit. However, Tom has a lot of relatively cheap fuzzes that sound pretty damn good. You might like the Chalice or the Arc Flash.
Depending on your budget, you might want to go with the Danelectro DC-1 for the chorus and an Ibanez DE-7 for the delay/echo. Those are pretty cheap and sound good for what they do. However, an amazing chorus, albeit pricey, is the Dr. Scientist Cosmichorus. And if you want a high end delay, there are tons out there, but it depends if you want to go analog, digital, or something in its own right.

everyone is asking what kind of tone i'm going for....well...i have multiple "personalities." Sometimes i want the darkest, heaviest, deepest tones like a demonic growl coming from the gut of the earth. Sometimes i want a tone that is like Blue Oyster Cult. . .kind of mellow but has a few "spiked" sections. Sometimes I want a nirvana kind of style, low but very present.
BY THE WAY!!! I PLAY BASS! NOT GUITAR!!!

...........
But I love you guys, so i forgive you.

So you're going for versatility. Got it. The only problem is we don't know what kind of budget you're going for.

As of right now,
my budget is $120 (usd). by the end of next weekend it may be up to $200. I earn around $80 a week mowing yards.

There's no effects-usin' bass hate round these parts.
Simmer.
On the ultra cheap, the Danolectro Fab Chorus is
amazing for the $15 price tag. I wish I hadn't given mine away...

We saw and know this, I am a bassist, I've been one longer then you've walked the earth, been using FX longer too

. Most general pedals work for bass. It's dirt pedal you have to really be picky about.
So you are looking for different over all sounds then "effect" sounds huh. I'd say a OD like a Digitech Bad monkey, Devi Ever KP, Electric Brown or a Mellowtone Hi five [although it is on the LIGHT side]. A fuzz of some sort... and one or two EQ pedals... Boss?
