sounds good man.

How did you record this? did you mic up the amps and drum kit and record live?

I set up 4 SM57 on the kit. 1 on the bass drum, one on the snare, and then one on the left side to pick up the floor toms and crashes on that side, and then one on the right to pick up the toms and hi hats. Recorded the rest at my house. I put a 57 on a cab in the closet for the guitars, and recorded the bass direct.

Now I'm not saying grown ups can't make up their own mind about chorus but it's a bit of a funny proposition around here. People are very very very self conscious about their possibly sounding remotely 'grunge'. That's like a dirty word around here now. You especially don't EVER want to sound like Nirvana. So chorus is just plain O-U-T out. Which is retarded as fuck. Music is art and art should be free. I mean having freedom, not no monetary value. So anyhow, I recently received the entire line of Mr Black pedals. The ones I was specifically after were AMAZING. But the secret sleeper of the whole deal was that Double Chorus. It's great fun and sounds real good. So my buddy who is one of the self conscious, deathly afraid to be viewed as unhip by the local hipster intelligentsia type hipsters, says on the phone that he wants to try 'em all out. Especially the phaser (which is just fucking filthy btw). I tell him that yeah the phaser is fucking sweet but the real hidden gem is that chorus... dead air. Then we go up to my practice space and as he's hooking up I reiterate how nice the chorus is. He again says nothing. So he spends the next hour diligently playing all these pedals. Except the chorus. Wouldn't even touch the chorus. I'm 100% certain that chorus is just not allowed in his mind and I'm 100% certain that 90s Grunge Fear Syndrome is to blame. That is fucking sad. Trying to specifically avoid a thing is almost exactly the same level of cliche as trying to specifically copycat a thing.

Anyways, here's some videos. The first one is the main thing I originally wanted from Mr Black.

That shit is heavy duty bro! I like.

I love the chorus sounds on Nirvana records. I've always love chorus, I was just messing around about getting shunned because most of the guys in here favor a phaser instead. I think if it fits (this goes for any effect) a certain part in the song then thats what you should use. Those videos seem cool. I really like the Double Chorus. And thanks for the kind words on my tune.

FUCK YEAH DIRT. ONE OF MY FAVORITE ALBUMS FROM ONE OF MY FAVORITE BANDS.

ALSO, GOT A DUDE WITH A RECAPPED BASSMAN 135 FOR 425. SHOULD I HIT IT? PS I AM BROKE BUT WHATEVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

OR

OR

OR

OR

SUNN 4X15 FOR SAME PRICE. TALK ME OUT OF IT.

:!!!:

Someone come play insanely heavy black metal + sludge with me. My new band rules, but I also need something heavier to play wherein I can do more vocals too. Plus blastbeats.

Shit, also, new Galaxicon record next summer. Hopefully. Got a dude who'll put it out on vinyl and that'll be neat. Know what's not neat? Writing via the internet. Lame.

Why in the world would we talk you out of a Sunn 4x15?? The bassman, yeah their cool and I'd love to have one, but dude.... SUNN 4x15!!!!!!

chorus hmm...dont know if I like it much but idk I have not spent a tone of time using the chorus on the mobius much. I generally gravitate to vibe, phaser, trem, and flange lately along with the quadrature mode (kind of like tremolo in the amplitude modulation setting but its got different speeds inside the modulation, kind of hard to explain without the Strymon video)

Here is what I mean, best if you use headphones, its a full stereo modulation effects with panning

http://youtu.be/fCNfKZcgADU?t=46s

http://youtu.be/fCNfKZcgADU?t=68s

the kind of tremolo sounds I like, harmonic vibrato setting

I have the Double chorus on my board. It's actually really, really killer. I keep it subtle and watery, but it works really nicely.

Maybe the chorus thing is telling of people's age. I was born in '74 so it was jazz fusion, Alex Lifeson taking the balls out of what would be awesome Rush songs, Andy Summers and the Police and then people started putting it on electronic snares and cymbals and all kinds of terrible places in the 80's, Judas Priest might have actually sounded bad ass if they had never decided to combine distortion and chorus. Zakk Wylde (my soul dies a little each time I have to pretend he was born with the male equivalent of a strippers name) fucked it all up again with No More Tears and every bro-jangles in a leather vest wanted that chorus/distortion sound...I'll admit it was kinda cool at first in a guilty pleasure way but again, it spawned too many bad copies. Nirvana broke when I was in 11th grade and while it worked great on Come As You Are it seemed like a cheesy crutch on that two note thing on Smells Like Teen Spirit as if they were saying "all I have is this little two note thing here which sounds really flat by itself but if I hit the chorus it sounds like I'm doing more than I really am". It just got to a point where whenever you heard a clean guitar in rock, it would have chorus on it. I found myself doing it years ago and when I made the decision to never use chorus, my clean parts got much more interesting. Now I'm probably abusing reverb so at some point in the near future I'll go on a unnecessary tirade about the importance of dry guitars.
“I'm not an abstractionist. I'm not interested in the relationship of color or form or anything else. I'm interested only in expressing basic human emotions: tragedy, ecstasy, doom, and so on.”

All of Mr Black's stuff sounds ten kinds of awesome. I really really want to try a Tunnel Worm.

So now I'm home and anxiously awaiting the UPS guy. Easily one of the best/worst feelings.

Thanks again! I shifted some obligations and was able to ship today. I was also able to take some HORRIBLE video of me QAing the very pedal (ABF#9) that is now on its way to you. Anyways the camera is clipping on the cleans and then the playing sucks too. I never know what to play so since I don't want to play AW riffs I usually just flounder and sound like even worse of a player than I even am. Anyhow, don't watch this.

Whooooaaaaa lots of conversatin'.

If given the choice between Oregon and Washington, it's hard but I'd lean toward the Seattle area, personally. Although working for the University of Oregon's sports medicine department is kind of a pipe dream for me.

Alice In Chains is one of the biggest influences that started me down the road to heavy music. I love that band.

Also rock out to this song, everybody:

NEW GUITAR DAY BISHES. So I finally broke down and bought that Schecter tele I've been wanting. Plays really well. Never had a guitar with a bigsby, I enjoy it so far, but it will take a bit of getting used to. Needs new (heavier) strings, but other than that it's a really nice guitar. Also, it's green. Which is the cat's pajamas. I acknowledge, but do not apologize for posting too many pics:

Still sounds as glorious as it did ten years ago, although paying import prices for a local band's album stung pretty hard.
