Yeah, one thing that I find disturbing when talking to/reading many Americans is this deep distrust of government. I mean, government is what makes a modern society viable for all, and not just for the lucky few who got dealt the best cards when they were born. It's a deep issue, but probably one of the most important difference between, say, Europe and the US politically.

Nah, fuck that. If the people want Drumpf, let them have Drumpf. He'll fuck things up so badly that he'll guarantee a Democrat's elected after his four years are up. :grumpy:

Exactly the point of this thread.
oscillateur wrote:I hoped you guys (speaking of all the Americans here) would get your shit together and nominate Sanders but you might have fucked that one chance of having a decent president that would have made the rest of the world look at you with a new form of respect...
Even if Sanders manages to nab the Democratic nomination, it doesn't mean he'll make an effective President. Just look at what Obama has/hasn't been able to do.

Well, some of that is historical (obviously), but Aldous Huxley and George Orwell were both English, so it's hardly a unique viewpoint :)

And I think that once the general public caught on to the gist of the Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling, the hopelessness there quickly turns to cynicism. Campaign finance reform is brought up in every single election, and every year the prohibitive favorites on either side of the aisle refuse to agree to it -- because they have the most to lose, so why would they? I don't think it's a particularly controversial thing to say that most people involved in politics as a career matter have little interest in actually helping their constituency, they simply want to be 'powerful' in whatever capacity. That's not a particularly nice thing to face on a regular basis.

Remember when legislation passed making it legal to execute terrorists anywhere in the world without trial while rhetoric about what constituted a terrorist came to mean "any political opposition and also people of color" and how an undeniable fascist started gaining astounding support to wield executive power.

I bet nothing bad will happen.

Of all the terrible things that are likely to happen to this planet in the future, i doubt this will be the worst, but i do fear there will be a constancy of horrors if this shitbag gets elected.

Walk into the ocean and hope for the best.
Pray that Monsanto doesn't drive edible plant life extinct and artificial intelligence is benevolent and well-programmed.
really, stop tempting me!!!!

For real, for real, my boyfriend and I are always talking about buying a farm, he wants to stay in the midwest and I like to joke about going to Europe or something, mostly bc it annoys him. Today he said "Scotland might not be so bad."

mainly because we have no say in what our military does and what we have to pay for in taxes.
there's no say really.
they make us think there is.
there is if we band together. be united as a people.
but it's all bought and paid for.
I wish there was hope.
with bernie it seems there might be.

To say that former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is a douche of the highest order would be totally unfair to douches everywhere.

He is suppose to make an "announcement on the state of the race". I think it's too little, too late for him to try to enter the race and save things for the GOP establishment.

I'm guessing him might support someone, but who knows.

Maybe he'll say some more tone deaf robotic bullshit that will reach no one of consequence. That'll fix it.
