I had his Supercharger GTO pedal years ago, it was okay but I've never been overly impressed by any tubed distortion pedal.

Generally tube distortion pedals dont run the tubes at their normal spec (something like 300V power supply with 5-6V heaters) but rather a 12V supply overall. That is kind of useless I think to run them like that. If you build a tube pedal with proper operation its more or less a preamp at that point so it becomes something different. Hence why I dont make tube pedals. Course, says nothing about these Soldano pedals, which could be running at the right voltages.

Of course the GTO runs the tubes at proper voltages. I've never found the thing too interesting with guitar but for bass it's pretty rad. He kicks it on at about the one minute mark here:

I crank this video all the time since you first showed it to me. The whole thing rules but that bass does sound awesome with the Soldano pedal.

I'm interested in hearing more about those Soldano pedals. You work for them right? What kind of tube would you recommend me running in my Hotrod 100+ a little cleaner on the dirt channel? I've got my preamp on 3 and its still a little too gritty. I'd like to have it sound like it does now if I have it on 5. Something just to clean it up just a tad but will still get crunchy when I dig in with my picking hand. I'm boosting it with a Revelation for my heavies.

I don't work there no. I live around the corner, pretty much my best pal (guitar player in that Sleep Capsule vid) does the tolex there and I did build a shitpot fulla footswitches to help pay for my amp. Plus one time I took care of Mike's cat while he was on vacation. What I'm getting at here is listen to Nick!

haha D. Well if you use one of those tubes you will decrease the mu, its the gain factor of the tube. It will reduce gain among other things. Most drastic would be a 12au7

Clearly D learned the TOAN SAECRETS from mikes cat. Thus, the Ape Blaster.

i've been a bit busy lately, which accounts for my low post count...but work is slowing down again, which means i can get my priorities back in order...and i need to read the last 10 pages to catch up!

in other news, we have a new lead guitarist join the band last week...so we are back to being a 4 piece.

the best thing is, he emailed me before rehearsals asking if it was ok if he brought his own amp and pedals rather than using the Orange amps at the rehearsal space...because he wanted us to hear his tone. So he rolls up with an old flying V that sounding massive and a heavily modded JCM800 which he has had for 15 years...in that time he's modded the gain stage and its set up with KT88's...this amp sounding fuckin great! all he had as far as dirt pedals go was boss OD pedal just to push the amp a little!

we started jamming on a couple of our songs and instantly it just sounded right.

I'm so stocked with this now...if we can rehearse every week, we should be able to get a demo done in a few months and then start hitting the gig scene!

HI! Of course as soon as I really get the Ape Blasters rolling I would experience total computer failure followed by a massive dose of the stupidest possible interpersonal drama (facebook stalking included, yay!) anybody could imagine.

At any rate, I live.

Woot! At the living part I mean. The rest of that sounds pretty shitacular.
Stalked? That can't be good...(note to self, back off on summit...Darren's case of stalking could make him weary...)
Soooooo, should I email you or PM you about an Ape Blaster order? Is now a good time or not really? I don't have the Electric Heat address, I've still got the Black Hand one though.

Also, fuck yes to new tube Soldano pedals. I can't remember if someone mentioned this already, but I'm pretty sure the original GTO was like 300v plate, but that's what made the fucker noisy, which people didn't like. My guess is he's solved that...? Either way, you could stick it in a loop, right? So bypassing didn't result in nasty hiss?
Nick, I'm not gonna hassle you bout that Wizard pre you bought up with skip a few pages ago, because now you saying that incorrect plate voltage is why you won't do them has confused me...unless you would do a couple but don't want to be making a bucket load, I can understand.

That Titan looks the tits.

Those Murrow products also look quality.

And fuck yeah Sam! Post some demoage when you got some! :doom:

So it'd probably be best to go with an 12at7 then. I don't wanna make it a totally clean amp. I still want it crunchy.
