nice score skip...would love to hear how it sounds...with the new pedal board too. How would you use it with Drop Electric, given its not really a high gain doom band?

Thanks Sam!!! I'll be posting up some demo's, we've taken a new step in the band and are starting to require EVERYONE to write new songs on their own time and bring them to practice about once a week, so gear demo's should start popping up with regularity.
As far as using it with DE, in its basic essence its a single clean channel class A amp. Perfect for pedals at our stage volume, and hopefully gorgeous clean tones. I will most likely not use the footswtchable boosts with DE though, there's not much dirt territory that I'd need to cover that the skyhammer can't provide. The only thing that was a hindrance was a lack of an FX loop, but luckily for me, the amp was still located in Seattle and the seller has no objections to dropping off the amp to Ben (as it saves them the hassle of packing and shipping a tube head), and Ben has no problems installing a tube buffered FX loop for me and then packing and shipping it to me. It's worked out really well. Also this head really isn't a high gain doom head, its only 45 watts and according to the seller needs pedals to get into doom territory, but if you put pedals in front of it and turn on the power amp boost its instant power tube distortion at low volumes, should be pretty sick for recording.

Won on the bay for a decent price and its still in Seattle so the seller's gonna drop it off for me at Ben's so he can install a tube buffered FX loop for me and give it a once through then he's gonna package and ship it to me. I'm fucking excited. It may look simple (as in not much for an EQ) but I've been jamming around on our lead guitar players blackstar with the same setup on the clean channel and I love it. Plus paired witht he Skyhammer pre I'll have plenty of tonal possibilities, add on that it has a footswitch that has boosts for both the preamp and the power amp and its a mini doom head made in hell.

Thanks! Ben seems like a down to earth guy I don't think he'd mind, but I can't speak for him. It is kinda funny, life works in mysterious ways like that. The craziest thing is i won it on my absolute max bid, if it had gone any higher I wouldn't have been able to afford the FX loop install. It's like it was destiny or something...

Funny you say that, we've been running into all the right gear in some strange ways, It's like the stuff finds us and then things come together in a way were we can suddenly afford it. Burial chamber is a perfect example. When you told me no sweat I can hold it for you, a few things I've had for sale suddenly sold, Destiny... Yeah that might be strong but its really cool how stuff works out sometimes.

that sounds really great especially the fact that Ben will put in a FX loop for you...Class A clean amp, always a solid platform for a good pedalboard...love it!
and that's good news about the Band wanting everyone to write, that's gonna make things a lot more interesting and should lead to some real eclectic mix of tracks.

Yeah man, I'm super excited. And exactly!!!
It should be really cool, we have a bunch of opportunities to place a lot of different kinds of music, and some of us have strengths that better serve one type over the other so it will allow all of us to be able to be our own type of creative and have it be beneficial for the band. For instance, when ever our newer album comes out its going to be alot less guitar oriented and alot more electronic, which isn't my forte, but we also have a company we work with that produces music for video trailers and they want more full band guitar oriented epic / soundtrack style music, which is my forte, so the whole band can contribute in different ways and nobody feels ignored or left behind.

Class A and 45 watts? That's cool. You don't see many amps with that kind of topology lurking about. The Laney L50H that Burgs uses for his demos is Class A uses five EL34's. It's pretty neat. Do you know what kind of amp it was based off, if anything in particular?

IN OTHER NEWS; I'm still waiting for Abanoise to send me photos of this JCM 800 Super Bass, but if this falls through, I'm looking for big loud clean amps to trade for my OTR120. Anyone have any suggestions or know anyone who might be interested?
I don't know anyone personally but keep your eye open and post a trade thread everywhere you can, excluding places like eBay obviously.

I know right?

Yes, it's rated for 45w (with 2 6550's) with the power amp boost engaged which increases the THD in the power stage beyond what is normally accepted for Class A, but thats also pretty much the definition of power amp distortion. Without it engaged it should be around 30w, but from what i understand Class A watts are perceived a bit louder then A/B watts. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong nick. As far as the circuit design its a Verellen original but the seller said he basically requested something similar in design to the THD bi-valve but with a simpler EQ section and less unnecessary features, he wanted the amp to sound like the guitar. Which works for me because usually I run a pretty flat eq with maybe some high end rolled off, which is basically what the single tone knob EQ allows.
It is very exciting, but also demanding. Time to go into overdrive.
