Are those those pre-made breadboard wires from Mammoth? How are they? I've just been tinning my stranded wire...

The same. I like em and they were only like $4 so to make the price of shipping worthwhile I threw em in an order. I haven't tried using just regular old striped wire.

Bonus points for ease of use.

Just finished up this Shin Ei Companion Fuzz for Dandolin. It's got the well-known "Mids" control added. It sounds about how the finish looks.

Not my cup of tea, but lots of people dig it.

I was trying out a "new" painting technique on this one. I like how it turned out, but it wasn't *quite* what I had in my head when I started. LED is green to match, of course.

@CJ I see you used the 3 transistor version. is it loud as hell when the mids are flat? I heard people that do the flat mids with no mids knob have all the volume they would need on the vintage 2 transistor shin ei. whats your experience on the subject?

I've never played a 2-transistor version, so I can't really say. But I don't notice a large volume difference between extremes on the mids pot.

For the FY2, I use a 5k pot for the variable mid scoop. It does create a volume increase when you take it away from the stock circuit values. To my ears, it never sounds as good with all of the mids back in. But it's great for the sounds you get lower in the rotation of the pot. I've built 7 of these. The second two that I made for friends sound fucking amazing. I remember changing some things in the builds and for some reason they came out really amazing. The ones I built since, sound close but not as good. I should have one of those sent back for inspection.

The FY2 is a simple circuit but I found many nuances in my experiments. I think it's a great fuckin' fuzz...
