Modular is tactile--you're not pressing a button and moving wires and knob positions, you're actually moving wires and knob positions. This makes the workings and potential more apparent with some time, while making things impossible to reproduce without taking the effort to document the setting. Accept the frustration of no recall and you abandon frustrations of limited routing, patching, and extensibility.
i get the appeal and find it tempting, but my wallet says no, at least for the foreseeable future.

ILF is hugely to blame for my gas turning this way too, because it has all the same cool shit. Rad builders, broad choice of aesthetics, sizes and levels of cork to sniff. And so much trading card fever, which we're taught as children...it took me through comic books and DVDs well before gear. I managed to avoid video games, still don't mess with 'em.

Oh, btw, my masters thesis wound up being approved, so I'm officially spending time researching noise music. This is fun.

Good! Now I can push Karkowski on you and feel no remorse (not that I did before but you know now it's sanctioned remorselessness)

Awesome! That will be amazing to read when it gets published (and maybe translated?). Congrats!

Writing it in English, so I'll just drop a link here like 19 months from now. I'm writing it from a philosophical standpoint, so basically focusing on how noise can be considered music (art). Will probably be somewhat similar to the work of Arthur Danto.

I love the weird turns this thread took. Hardly anyone explicitly answered the questions I'd posed; still, folks revealed biases and answered things in their own way.
Congrats, Eivind! Now you can spend your days wracked in doubt, cut off from society, wondering how/why you chose this path. But...it gets better.
Also, I've decided to sell 90% of my pedals, simplify, and build a modular year (next year maybe) to further pursue these ideas.
GOING MODULAR

You creep-ass, you. Do that and make the beckoning finger gesture.
