the thing that bothered me about the Pumpkins other than what they did was that they were touted as "psychedelic" which then just were not.

Yea, they were marketed as that because it was the local music scene's "thing" at the time, the whole hippie thrift store thing was in vogue then too.

We used to point and laugh at the band if they were playing somewhere that a friend's band was opening during the early 90s. It was the era's equivalent of hipster shit. Never gotten the Pumpkins at all.

Always felt the same way and I'm from australia. I get being into them for nostalgia reasons. But my own experience of it as a kid was like 'this sucks, this is a shitty version of bands I haven't heard yet but I know there's something out there that does this way better'. Also I liked the Melvins more than Nirvana so basically I was insufferable as a 13 year old.

I like Gish, I just like the other albums more.

First Pumpkins album I heard was Mellon Collie back in 2009 as a freshman in high school. I had liked "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" a lot, so I seeked the album out to hear more. Loved it, still my favorite pumpkins album.
