LaoWiz and his buddy own The Inflatable Crowd Company. They use those dummies for major motion picture crowd shots as it's far cheaper than paying extras. Think they got their start on Sea Biscuit years ago but they've done like 60+ movies since iirc.

Yea, that's been my stupid job for the last ten years. It used to be so fun and take me to great places but for the past 4 years its been a lot slower as CG takes away a lot of the work more and more. Plus the studios shoot these crowd scenes in a lot less time as they used to because there is less money around. It's a bummer but I'm tired of doing it, really hard work and really stressful. The good thing about it getting slower is I have had more time to make effects, I just make way less money these days. Which is fine as I don't need much, just not good for the future. The company has taken me to Canada several times. New York and New Orleans a bunch. But the best was to spend a month in Iceland with a paid hotel room and cargo van. That was the best trip ever. Some recent movies we work on include Jersey Boys and the upcoming Alejandro Inarritu Birdman with Michael Keaton.

It was really interesting at first but then the days kinda dragged on. It's all shot with extremely long takes, so the first 6-8 hours of the day consisted of the crew rehearsing with standins the blocking and camera movements for a scene. Then they would do it with the actors. They shot probably only one scene each day. But not a bad project, getting to watch Ed Norton, Keaton and Naomi Watts rehearse everyday was kinda cool. And I was in New York for 3 weeks....

Ha, I guess that's really the nature of that kinda work. A lot of sitting around waiting until they need you.

There's nothing wrong with desk jobs. I guess it just matters that you like your job. I don't really like mine anymore. I've only really worked on maybe 5 movies that I would consider to be good and thats out of maybe 60-70 movies I have worked on. The traveling part was fun but I haven't gone anywhere this year. I kinda want a day job for the security but am going to wait this year out to figure things out.
