I don't really have any guilty pleasures as far as listening to music.
People looking at my gear would probably not assume I enjoy:
Lady Gaga
Waka Flocka Flame
Dub Step (its the Spinal Tap of electronica.)
Most of my music guilty pleasure is in making music. I love playing the WRONG ASS CHORD on purpose, and blaming the bassist if it sounds too wonky. I sometimes will play the wrong song entirely, but for only a moment. "Forgot About Dre" is satisfying when your band mates are considering covering Stairway to Heaven. Maybe this should be in the confessions thread instead. I'm such an ass.

I don't believe in guilty pleasures, especially with music. Either you enjoy it or you don't. What's there to be guilty about? What's there to be embarrassed of?

sorry VanVanMuddles. there is music people should feel dirty, DIRTY SHAME for liking.
i mean. they should still like it. but they need to feel like bad people about it.

Yeah, nope. It's none of anyone's god damn business what makes anyone happy. It isn't hurting anyone that Steve likes Nickelback. Does that make me take any music suggestions he offers to me with a grain of salt? Absolutely! It isn't something he should be shamed for, tho.

Good thread to necrobump.
I reread through and quite a few posters seem to interpret "guilty pleasures" as something to be embarrassed of...which aint me at all.
I consider musical guilty pleasures the songs that connect with me on some kind of higher emotional level, usually nostalgia-based...and simultaneously put off almost anyone else who hears it/them, while providing me with overly indulgent levels of enjoyment.
NES cover bands exemplify it. To borrow a phrase I've absorbed somewhere along the line, arrangements/music that were never intended to be performed by humans, performed by humans...can be even less accessible than contemporary mathy-styles. The nerd-factor is overwhelming and many can only jive with it if done ironically. It's also total sausage party status.
Woteva, I do what I want.

I was thinking about this today as I noticed the Tea Party were touring and I really loved them when I was a teenager. I is it nostalgia that compels me to go see them...or is it legit.
I kinda feel like they're awesome, but also a borderline crime.
