Ughhhh. Book 4 is booooooring so far. I mean, there's good stuff, but I'm not loving it like I did the last 3.

I've started the audiobooks over and am re-watching the episodes in tandem (listen to the book for several hours at work, watch the corresponding episode/s when I get home). Almost through book/season 1 now, and noticing all kinds of cool shit. The thing I'm appreciating most is the scenes that weren't in the books, many of which were written by GRRM, but didn't fit in with the character POV method of the books. They're like little extra goodies, and totally meant to please the hardcore fans. Some of it is for streamlining, but a lot of the "extra" material is pure icing, and actually the opposite of hack/slash/cut.

None of these scenes were in the books, but they all fit perfectly into the timeline, actually adding to the "original" story. Fucking awesome.

Books 1-3 are all kinds of awesome but book 4 is a long, hard slog. There are so many story lines that just tread water. I understand that Dorne is important, but GRRM could have tightened that shit up. I haven't read book 5 yet, but by all accounts, it's similar to book 4. I'm hoping the show condenses books 4&5 to no more than two seasons. There is a LOT of fat to trim from both books. I don't care if the show gets ahead of the books and the ending differs from whatever will happen in the unfinished books. So far, the producers have done an excellent job of streamlining the material and adding scenes that bridge the gaps caused by cutting the fat. I have faith that they won't fuck things up if they stick to GRRM's basic outline of how the story ends.

I disagree, all that Sansa screwed up was telling the Queen when Ned planned on leaving King's Landing. Ned was about to have his ass handed to him regardless due to Catelyn capturing the Imp. Catelyn trusts Littlefinger's explanation that the dagger is Tyrion's (Mistake #1), captures Tyrion (Mistake #2), Takes Tyrion to the Eyrie, where he outsmarts Catelyn and her sister, hooks up with Bronn and the Hill People (Mistake #3), Causes Tywin to start a war to rescue Tyrion (Mistake #4), and frees Jamie, losing the North's only bargaining chip (Mistake #5). All of these screwups not only doom Ned, but kill thousands of soldiers and common people. (I didn't put this info in a spoiler tag as it is all happens in Season 1&2)

Book five is more consequential than book four, but you need book four to set it up.

If that scene was shown longer than 30 seconds after the statement I might have had time to think about it more  Joffery is fuckin' nuts. I was excited to see romance between him and Marjory (aka Marjory naked) but I'm afraid he's gonna beat ther shit outta her or something

Also this past episode was craaaazy good. So much shit happened.
Anyone noticed that the actor thats hanging out with Bran is the little kid from Love, Actually?
