I think that's clever too.. BitQuest.. I like it!

I had also been thinking CompuQuest... I like that a lot too.. it hearkens back to the early days of software/gaming companies...

I'm totally stuck on the last patch...I'm trying to do this really rudimentary thing, make a counter and as it counts down and resets it turns the audio on and off... it's so basic I can't even find an example but I can't flippin figure it out haha.. I've got a cool idea for the final patch though, a multi-modulation patch...

The Enemy's Gate is Distorted.... Quest!

I do like CompuQuest, though! And as you mentioned it's extra different from the Bit Commander.

Thanks Bart! CompuQuest reminds me of InfoCom, that old company that made text adventure games waaay back...

Thanks gents! I like BitQuest too, let's keep working with that and see how it goes...

I made some more progress, figured out how to make an on/off tremolo using the lfo sign as the on/off decider.. what I was thinking for the multi-mod patch is that one pot would be gain like every patch, one knob would be rate, and one knob would scroll between ideally 3 cool modulation effect sounds - an on/off tremolo sound, a badass metallic flanger sound, and a cool phaser sound, all pre-set for a great mix/depth/sound... it would sort of round out the cool high-gain effects that I like. And it would be useable with a clean signal too, like every patch.

While figuring out the trem code I stumbled upon a very cool sounding way to make fuzz with a really small amount of code. It uses the zrc command and I guess this is like digital asymmetrical hard-clipping, chopping off half the signal when it crosses 0... it doesn't clean up at all with the guitar's volume knob but it sounds really good, gonna use it in the low-medium gain patch.

Code: Select all

;ZRC Fuzz

rdax   adcl,1
skp   zrc,1
clr
wrax   dacl,0

This is just getting more and more ridiculously awesome... *drools*

Just wondering, how exactly are you making the mod effect the clean signal? Will the settings just be clean with the gain at zero, or will the modulation effect both "sides" of the mix knob?

That's a good question, Bart, and I'm not really sure... I think what I'll have to do for some patches is pre-set them with a mix that I think sounds great, so you can use them in high gain mode, and then if you turn the gain all the way down for clean mode you can still use the mix knob to mix in dry signal.. it's something to ponder still for sure, especially with the delay patch, the sustain patch, and the multi-mod patch.

I think there'll be lots of BitQuest patches through the years.. there's lots of ideas that are fun effects to have without having a whole pedal of just that effect. The pedal can have 8 patches now but if I got better at micro-programming that can be increased, with an external micro and more memory.

I think it'd be cool if the BQ ships with 8 killer patches that are a lot of fun and then once a person has the pedal and has some time to see what they like, they could possibly get a new memory chip from me with a different patch or two or some tweaks or changes.. I think it'll be fun over time as new patches are made.

I could see some of the main 8 patches changing over time too, like being swapped in and out for different or better ideas, as my power grows or interests change... I think that'll be a fun thing about the BQ, it can evolve over time just like a real RPGer on a quest, his armor and weapons and magic will change over the course of the quest as the situations and needs change and the BQ could evolve like that with its users too.

You collected a Dr Scientist Effect + 1000xp! :joy:

Buy toanz
100xp = Elemental Distortion
500xp = Cosmic Magic
1000xp = Dr Scientist T-Shirt Armour

I like that idea, so you could just pop in a reprogrammed chip to your utility bit quest... I guess as time moved on you could release different bit quest 'version' pedals for as things evolve.

Kinda like a Devi Console but real and not just some fantasy story :snax:
