I changed the tuners to the Wilkinson EZ-Lok's and I dig them. The stock tuners would turn WAY too easy for me. I'd touched the headstock or neck on a mic stand and stuff would jump down a step... I also had my buddy (TheWoodWizard) throw a Tusq XL nut on it. The combo of the two made the tuning stability much better.
I also swapped pickups. I didn't really dig the 498/490. I used the setup I've grown accustomed to and tailored my amp/pedals around. A Wilde Bill Lawrence L500XL (with a 250k volume pot) in the bridge and a Dimarzio Paf Pro in the neck. Sounds awesome!

I use pretty heavy strings... 10-52 or 11-50 depending on what I can find when I need them. Tuned to standard E. Heres some pics. I haven't figured out what I want for knobs yet

I'm thinking black speed knobs, or maybe black bells.

Yeah, they seem to be working out nicely. THey're kind of strange to restring, but I"m sure it'll get easier the more times I do it. They seem solidly built and they were pretty inexpensive when compared to Sperzels...

I either want to put a TV Jones Filtertron classic in the neck, or put a pair of Bare knuckles Stockholm p90s in there. Or maybe I could put a filtertron in the neck and a Stockholm in the bridge. I really want to learn how to modify my guitars! There's so many possibilities!

i took some steel wool to the neck

as per my bandmates genius idea
i then went and wooled up the whole shebang
dont know if it comes through
its diffucult to take a picture of how not shiny it is
before

AFTER

i promise it looks way more badass now
ohand after a year of crappy ipod ipad pictures
i decided to break out the digital camera for this one

^^^ Love that thing. Looks good with the creme guard. Three ply B/W/B might look nice too.

I like the cream pickguard but a BWB wouldn't look bad either. I have a thing for BWB guards though.
If you don't put a Bigsby or something on that then you are missing out. You could probably even get one of those Vibramates so you didn't have to drill it in permanently.
Looks a lot better with a dull finish too. That bridge pickup has me interested though. Big poles pieces get me excited. (TWSS)

Holy fuck shit, Matt it looks so good dulled up like that.
Can you see fine little scratches everywhere or is it pretty even?
I wanna do that to my guitar....
Also, stick with that cream guard, looks good.
I wish I had a played that beast when I was down your way.

no scratches at all
i did it with steel wool
and i have a bit of experience
you know building furniture and whatnot
so im pretty good at hand sanding
but i think if you go with wool youl be ok
just remove or cover tpyour pickups
cause theyll get hairy
i used a green scrub pad last too
so that helped
it looks dope as shit
the pickups are two teiscos
out of my old et-200
wired parralel
not because i thought about it
just cause it was my first wiring project
i just matched up colors
so ive been told it actually madethem humbucking
theyve held up after a year of abuse
they really bump up low end
so much better than the stock neck hb
also theyre microphonic as hell
and feedback like crazy when you want them too
cowboy cleans and nasty noize fuckin versatile
every guitar i gas over now
i picture with them in there
the bridge is a gfs loudmouth
and kb,even though the hangrr is gone
youre welcome to bang on my shit anyday homey
