Yep... around 18$ shipping to Canada in an envelope without any protection... that's what I've got each time I ordered from them.

In addition to the envelope (used for a Mid-Fi with no box at all ), I've been getting First Class lately.
I know it's free but if your going to pull that shit let me know and I'll spend a few bucks for Priority.

I always think it's fascinating how concerned we are with money and saving it. It's all so arbitrary when you think about it. and also for someone working just a normal job that you can barely support yourself on it gets really hard to afford gear amongst other expenses. I usually just buy used stuff because I'm more or less supporting the seller and I save some money. I think dudes with expendable income should be supporting builders directly because they have more spending power? and maybe builders who don't like dealing with distributors should just not? if their pedals are really special I think people would be willing to buy from them directly. and if not they should work on their pricing perhaps.
:idk:

Yep.

Mr. Black, Neunaber, Sonny, Mountainking, Klon Dude & Anal OG Man are a few who seem do do this with success.

I have had 2 issues with orders from Prymaxe out of around 8 or so. The first one was sent to the wrong state (may have been a USPS problem but I doubt it); when I told them what happened they sent another which arrived alright. The second one I had to go to my post office to pay for shipping since Prymaxe somehow screwed up the weight of the package.

there's a little catch that i've noticed with for example EQD - very expensive international shipping in comparison to dealers. Which sours the whole purchase very much for me

That happened to me twice with orders placed with them. After the second time I swore I would stop ordering from them...and didn't.

I don't think Mid-Fi uses boxes? Or at least the Pitch Pirate I got from Prymaxe didn't come with one. Ditto for Iron Ether stuff. Even so, that's definitely a case where they should NOT be using a padded envelope.

I get why they use padded envelopes, from a business standpoint: no additional packing materials, and they are self-sealing. If they had a box, they would have to fill it with something else that costs money, and then seal it with tape. The envelopes are self sealing. They probably think the padded envelope keeps the pedal stable enough, but I agree with everyone that this is not the way they should be shipping.

Mine wasn't even in a padded envelope though. It was in a standard USPS Priority envelope.

Iron Ether does provide boxes btw.

That's just the cost of doing business.

I agree with you. Gotta spend money to make money. I was just providing what I imagine is their cost-cutting perspective, that, considering the volume they do, probably adds up.

Oh well that's just plain horseshit!

Also, I guess I got screwed on the IE pedals I got from Prymaxe last year, as neither had a box. Jerks!

i've sent a few pedals out with padded envelopes but i made sure to put bubble wrap or something else inside the actual pedal box for added protection and marking the envelope fragile. that to me makes more sense.

the last few pages of this thread have been convincing me to just buy directly from the dealer from now on.

I know IE is kind of hit and miss with boxes, sometimes they come with it and sometimes they don't, my FrantaBit has a box but my Xerograph Deluxe doesn't for instance.

isn't that the usual way to ship a pedal? i mean... it's mainly important to protect the PEDAL, not the pedal box

couldn't care about a padded envelope IF you put bubble wrap inside the box itself

Depends on the box. The box that Darkglass sends with their pedals isn't a standard cheap cardboard box. It's part of the package. Nice design, magnetic lid, fits perfect inside. Totally part of the resale. GOD DAMN IT. Oh well. I'm not planning on doing that, but you guys know me.

I still haven't heard from those bitches. Pisses me off because they are usually pretty quick with responses.
