and WTF was up with people calling them "psychedelic"? they were about as psychedelic as wheat toast.
You could use wheat toast as the bread for a mushroom sandwich or just drop some LSD on it and you have psychedelic wheat toast. You can't do anything to make smashing pumpkins psychedelic...

I'm pretty sure anything can become psychedelic when mushrooms are involved. Seriously, take some of that and stare and wood grain for a couple hours
Yah, I wouldn't call punkin's psych-ey. They're fuzzy, but in more of a heavy way. I've always had trouble figuring out how to define psychedelic, but it's one of those things that I'll know when I hear it. And I'll like it. It's partly because when I started
listening to music I was listening to late 60's early 70's rock so that kind of stuff just seems "normal" to me.

psychadelic itself is just SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUPER broad and vague, and i don't like that people try to limit it to just some dudes form the 60's or people working in that style.
the pumpkins aren't REALLY psychadelic, but if we're goin with "psychadelic is more than that" i'd say dudes like the whole shoegaze scene would qualify, or someone like The Claudia Quintet.
i don't like how "psychadelic" has had people try to paint it in this corner of being swirly and colorful and hippie dippie and stuff and like white-dudes-with-drugs-playing-blues-rock or even like the acceptable neo-psyche bands like The Flaming Lips. theres a shitton of bands out there that have the same weird psychadelic leanings, but aren't called psychadelic for some reason or another.
idk, its more analogous to a parataxonomic classification, but it should still be accurate.

Yah, I've always had trouble with the term because I've thought of it too broadly I guess, but maybe it's not
too broad.
And I physically do feel dirty and unclean but especially smelly. Mentally, I don't mind being dirty and unclean. It's just that...I could really use a shower. Or at least some deodorant, or I'd even settle for some febreeze.

i'm down with the swirly and colorful hippie dippie definition of psychedelic but not the white guys on drugs playing blues rock part.

i fucking hate blues rock.
i think psychedelic is as useful a term as lo-fi for music. not to say either are useful or useless, i'm just saying they're like equally useful.

1. Blues rock is one of those things that was great when it was actually cool, but anything done after '73ish is lamer than Stephen hawking.
2. Psychedelic is a better descriptor than a genre.
3. I did smell my wallet a minute ago and it wasn't pretty. Overall, I'm not sure if my different body parts smell all that differently or if it all just congeals into one odd stank.

1. maybe, i'm not sure. i just don't like it at all.
2. i completely and totally agree.
3. fucking gross man. just kidding, i skip showers on the reg. but i've never gotten to that level of funk. i think it has something to do with being a vegetarian.

also that i can't go more than 3 days without feeling awful.
wait no, one time my neck strap for marching band (i played the sax!) was so stiff with sweat and awful that my friend took it and washed it for me.
