Some of you guys could ruin any buzz from any drug.

All I know is that food can sometimes produce mood changes in people that appear to be of the nature of "good drugs". So okay, maybe there are no drugs in food, but changes in blood sugar sure seem to have immediate effects in some people.

A lady I used to work with had idiopathic hypoglycemia, and once she had a blood-sugar crash while I was standing there. She got all sweaty and dizzy and asked if I had anything with sugar in it. I happened to have a candy bar, so I gave it to her. After two bites and about 30 seconds, she was almost totally back to normal......as if she'd just been given some kind drug. Isn't that a type of chemical reaction? Did it not affect the operation of this lady's brain?

I'm not trying to split hairs here, just trying to better understand what's happening. I could've sworn I'd read that food can have an affect on brain activity.

Sugar is a drug. It's used to cure hypochondria. ;)

That's excellent! One time, one of my coworkers wrote "marshmellows." I imagined a bunch of marshmallows wearing sun glasses and sitting around a pool and I lol'd.

glucose is the brain's fuel. not enough glucose and that sort of stuff happens. giving her something with sugar just returned the brain back to normal. like a car running out of gas then being refueled.

so glucose is a substance that has a physiological effect when ingested or otherwise introduced into the body? If only there was a word for that...

:p

So sugar is just "brain petrol" and has no pharmacological interaction with the human body? Okay, good to know! :thumb:
