I've been purposefully ignoring that thing, but that video sounds really nice. I really like the layout. Seems really intuitive

I've been trying to understand how these things work for awhile. I thought the little spinning disks came in contact with the strings, but I've seen a couple videos where that doesn't seem to be the case. So I'm assuming they must be magnetic or something like the e-bow? Pretty cool idea. I'd install one on a guitar if they were cheaper

Pretty sure it's entirely mechanical in naure, but, yeah, does take some dedication to have an instrument set up with one.

"The device, a small enclosure attached to the guitar, consists of small motor-driven wheels with serrated edges to match the size of each string. The continuous bowing action is activated by pressing one or all of keys located on the top of the unit. Pressing a key allows the wheel to descend against a motor-driven shaft and bow the corresponding string, while the other hand remains free to fret single notes or full chords....
A fault with the prototype and Musictronics Gizmotron was that the wheels were affected by conditions such as humidity and temperature. Additionally, due to deficiencies in the design of these units, the wheels would either produce harmonics of their own that varied with the speed of the wheel, or would act as a secondary bridge and produce dissonant overtones, depending on the notes played. According to Kevin Godley, "Some days it sounded absolutely beautiful and other days it sounded like shit. Sometimes it was like a chainsaw, and sometimes it sounded like a cello and other times it varied between to two, so it was never a particularly stable piece of kit, but we persevered with it.”[9]
The severity of these problems could be minimized by adjusting the proximity of the wheels to the guitar strings with extreme precision. Adjustment was very time-consuming, where each wheel (and arm) is moved closer or farther to a string to achieve the purest tone. Improper set-up of these wheels meant either a lack of tone, or — usually in the case of over-eager amateur or impatient guitarists — an undesirably harsh tone caused by wheels being forced too tightly against the strings. Using the Gizmotron required that guitarists modify their playing techniques to use only a very light touch when pressing the keys. Specific and repeated instructions in the Gizmotron owner's manual stress this.
In the Musictronics version of the Gizmotron, an improper set-up resulted in a quick wearing down of the wheels for which there were no replacements — the wheels were not removable from the arm attachments. Musictronics Gizmotron wheels were expensive and problematic to produce."

For people into lo-fi, analog delays, this one could be special. If you want to skip sales tax, CME is the only shop I've seen taking pre-orders. I would guess these will not be excluded from holiday sales either, but we'll see.

Moog has trademarked
Matriarch.
https://trademarks.justia.com/883/05/ma ... 05351.html
Electronic low pass filters for musical instruments; Electronic ring modulators for musical instruments; Electronic effects units for musical instruments; Sound frequency filters for controlling audio parameters by raising or lowering the gain of specific audio frequencies using a resonant filter; Sound frequency filters for controlling audio parameters by raising or lowering the gain of specific audio frequencies using a low pass filter, band pass filter, resonant filter or using a multiple resonant filter array and animating those frequencies using a built-in pattern generator
They've also trademarked
Spectravox, which is this year's workshop build (previously rumored to have been called the Vocoder From Another Mother).
https://trademarks.justia.com/883/34/sp ... 34331.html
https://www.moogmusic.com/media/moogfes ... hop-teaser
Participants in this year’s Moogfest Engineering Workshop will build the Spectravox, a spectral modulator inspired by Homer Dudley’s developments in speech synthesis during the 1930s. This all-analog design is built around a 10-band spectral analysis and synthesis section and features some new twists that will make the Spectravox a deep resource for exploring and creating unique electronic timbres.
Here's the teaser again, for anyone desiring a refresh.

Zoia preorder went up today and I really want to be an early-adopter but I really don't want to spend $500...
Does Empress usually do sales stuff? Any of the big sites discount them?

Musician's Friend and Rogue Guitar Shop have included Empress in past sales. They might do 15% off for you, if you call in. After them, Vintage King might do 10%.
MF's buyer(s) are not exactly on-the-ball, though, so it may take 2-3 months before they start carrying the Zoia. With Memorial Day at the end of May, you might see a sale or a reasonable demo model by then. I'll PM you, if I see something.
