Sounded awesome. Really really. Love the effects after the midway point of the track. The sound quality is really excellent as well considering it's just two condenser microphones in the centre of the room. It shows you've spent some time trying to perfect the sound.

I agree with this. I see where Skip is coming from regarding the quality of the recording process, but there is something golden about raw music that lacks the finer precision of modern production values (and I know you know this, Skip, I'm just joining the conversation). The music is still excellent but the memories you associate with the band changes from being humble and approachable to otherworldly and godlike. I just prefer the more raw approach because of how comforting it is. It's the same with the band Placebo. When I saw them in 2009 supporting their new album, I just wasn't impressed. They had five or so extra musicians on stage with them and it just lost its charm. The whole three-piece beauty disappeared. There is something warm about seeing a three-piece duke it out proudly. It's raw, close, and passionate.

Thanks! The bass effects are a muff clone built by Ax and El Oso bass distortion stacked with some 105q wah action shortly after the 4 minute mark. I fucking love how that wah sounds with fuzz/distortion.

Damn, that's a wah? Wow. Sounds sick. I'm not a huge wah-wah fan, but I dug the way you used it there. It had less of a 'wah' and more of a filtered sound.

I concur my friend, raw emotional music needs a raw recording or it sounds forced and produced (as in unnatural and artificially created). But as a band evolves I personally don't see a problem with the recording quality improving, great example to me is Mayhem. They let the recording quality improve with each album but what they did that impressed me was lowered the quality of some of the sounds. Listen to ordo ad chao, the drums if under any other context would sound like utter shit, they literally sound like wet cardboard boxes but it just works so well the way they used it. To me that album is the pinnacle of how modern black metal should sound, with modern clarity and depth but unorthodox dirty and disgusting tones that leave you feeling unsettled.

Dude I'm with you on the adding members unnecessarily. We tried adding a string section for shows for about 6 months and it did nothing but hinder our own chemistry as a five piece and cause unnecessary tension and equipment problems. Any bands i form from here on out though are gonna be a three piece, like you said theres nothing like the raw passion of a three piece hell bent on sonic domination.

I'm still getting used to using wah (shit...effects in general. I wasn't much of a pedal fiend until I started playing heavier stuff lol). But I'm glad you dig it...guess I'm doing it right!

Raw recordings are best recordings. This is one of the many reasons I love Dinosaur Jr., High on Fire, and even bands I'm sure you all hate like Neutral Milk Hotel and Pixies.

Stripped or low-fi recordings where there are few gimmicks and obvious clean ups are the best. What I like to hear is what Steve Albini referred to as "archiving" a band.

The Pixies are the best and the haters can hate but the Pixies. They are the best.

Yeah heard about that. It's a bummer but Black Francis kinda strikes me as a crazy person (just a hunch) and difficult to work with.

I really liked the production on SbT... It was muffled, but it fit the tone they set for the album in my eyes. I remember feeling that the fogginess made it feel oppressive, as though you wish it were clearer so you could "get it", but then the album was like "nope". It really took a few listens of Snakes for me to pick up on it, but there's still only a handful of songs on there that I can really jam to. De Vermiis made a return to the older style production and mingled old and new style writing IMHO; I was impressed.

That headshell is the fucking tits by the way. Until I really started looking at Emperor cabs, I had never considered doing "burst" finishes for anything other than guitars. Emperor may be a little rich for my blood, but it still looks snazzy as fuck. Did I mention green is my favorite color?

In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is one of my favourite albums. Pixies, I dig them, but not all of it. Some of it is brutally beautiful and some of it is not my thing.

Fuckin' looooove the Pixies! Surfer Rosa, even though I haven't listened to it in a reeeeeeally long time, is hands down one of the best albums ever written. Front to back, awesome.
