I don't know why Dennis Fano left the company that bears his name, but he's been working with Eastwood on a new model for his Rivolta line. The latest release retails for $1300 US/ 1200 GBP (about the same as the Ric-inspired Combinata).
The Mondata looks like a cross between an Ibanez Jet King and a 1960s Hofner to me. ---Or you could call it a Jazzmaster, Firebird, and a Reverend mix.

I don't understand how designers continue to give away such a huge stake of their companies. I read about PBG a long time, but had to refresh myself on the details. I imagine he didn't get much of a payoff, when he moved on either.
Thanks for the Novo link. I knew there was another project, but I couldn't remember its name.

I think he was getting royalties per guitar, but now that PBG is over, I don't even know who is building them. Gene Baker, the dude overseeing all the building at PBG originally, also left and is working with Roscoe Guitars in NC now.

Jack Schwarz, a 30-yr Fender vet, bought the name and now builds them in Arizona, according to the Fano site.

We're very sorry but The Submarine is not going to be available in the USA. We've had some very aggressive lawyers’ letters representing a company who have recently patented the method of using a two string pickup with an octave pedal. Quite how this is possible since the method has been around since at least the 1960s They are preventing us from doing business in the land of the free.
This is very frustrating and disappointing, to say the least. As much for us as it is for you, believe me.
I know many of you had your heart set on The Submarine and were looking forward to buying one. We've been desperately looking for a way around this tricky situation, all to no avail.
