It wasn't until I found the modular memes thread that I realized that muffs wasn't the ILF of synths.

Can we just get all the cool people to move here?

I unno, a lot of annoying posts there. Some dude in the NAMM 2016 eurorack thread is talking about how all these people getting into eurorack is going to ruin the format forever. Weird fucking place. I want to get 100 posts to start selling shit but it sort of just sucks to post there. ILF is like the best forum by far.
Most of Muff's is awesome. The Eurorack subforum is, to me, pretty bad. There is a lot of helpful information there sure but it is also the home to the most rabid consumerism around. I enjoy several others a lot more. The General Modular subforum has a lot of discussion about technique which applies to al kinds of formats, I dig the Serge/Buchla subforum a lot, great music there too. The member's only area is pretty cool. Certain manufacturers subforum are great.

Muffs is definitely not a TGP/TalkBass type of forum. Knowledgable people tend to be helpful, you can say what you want, you can post nudes in some threads or whatever,it is not heavily modded. If one wants to just search topics and learn, it is a goldmine but I think it is also cool to participate in, besides the Euro subforum.

Also, over the past 2 or 3 years or so, there are a few people that do bitch about Euro growing so much, pretty much that it is getting too popular so they aren't cool or some shit. Those people are douches, the more the merrier and the more cool stuff gets developed.

That's pretty fair. I do enjoy reading some of the threads but I never really feel like I can talk about anything there, probably because I'm so new to everything haha.

Yeah, Muffs is cool but there are sadly more and more morons who seem to be all about bitching and consumerism in there. Mostly relatively new people. There is an ignore option and I have about 15 people in there now. I would maybe use that feature for a couple of persons here. Still, lots of good people in there, you just have to ignore the few percents of morons.

psychic vampire. wrote:God damn, this thread is a fascinating and helpful read. Planning on getting a complete voice this summer to dip the toes in modularity, and the Lifeforms and the 0-coast are both now high on the list. Beautiful, beautiful.

Any of y'all have experience wight DIY? Do you have any suggestions for great DIY shit to look at?
I have some experience with DIY. Really, I bought a couple modules, failed to build them, then got someone to build them for me.

Good DIY stuff to check out:
- Thonk/Music Thing Modular Mikrophonie, Radio Music, Spring Reverb
- Turing Machine
- All the 4ms stuff
- All the Synthrotek stuff (I think)
- Ryo Optodist

And on the subject of Muffs, it took me awhile to actually feel comfortable posting there. It feels like a super exclusive club, but it's not really that bad. The more I played synth and started to understand the basics, the more I felt like I understood what was happening on Muffs. There's a ton of useful information and great people in there. Definitely not a TGP or anything. The euro subforum can get pretty bad though. It's like 80% "check out my first rack ever", 10% HYPEHYPEHYPE, 7% "euro is too popular", and 3% useful and interesting things. And yet, I still spend so much time there

Yeah, I spend a lot of time lurking a lot of forums, places like muffwiggler feel pretty intense to me. I post here sort of by grace of "it is the only message board that doesn't grate away at my sanity" and that is bc I love y'all. Also the name is so bad. Muff wiggler?

Muffwiggler is the combination of thr names two EHX pedals that the person who created the forum used together, he registered the domain name and used it for private stuff at first, then made a forum but not intending it to be big or anything and the forum slowly but surely grew and became the main place online for modular synths...

Muffs is a pretty broad mix of generations too, that's something to keep in mind. Lots of older guys with money to blow on mountains of gear, but that doesn't make them all TGP lawyers. Modular is cooler than PRS/Klon/Dumble, so they definitely have better taste. Many of them are on a level of experience and understanding that dwarfs our own, too. Pighood is there, I remember his pics from the harmony central keyboard forum - rooms full of waldorf, roland, moog, DSI etc., dude literally had a bigass house just packed full of synth gear. Keyboards in the hallways, leaning on the wall sideways and shit. Incredible.

The professional element and company forums are what make it like ILF, I think. It's a community hub, and a bigger one than this. More regular interaction from builders and industry people than I've seen anywhere else for sure. Lots of industry peeps lurk ILF and react to/take guidance from our threads, and there is probably even more of that at muffs, since it covers the whole synth community.
The most irritating thing about it to me is the rampant police force, always waiting with their finger on the trigger to move or edit threads and bitch at people for not using search. I understand the need for it, I really do, but the constant grumbling about it is very offputting, and I wish they were more relaxed and 'whatever' about it. No motherfucker, I won't get off your lawn. I'm gonna throw a free show on it and attract some females, thank you very much... :hello:

I drank a bunch of lightweight beer today and I have to say that the prospect of having to screw all of these modules to rails is as unappetizing as can be and I'm just looking at 3u.

Some of these motherfuckers roll up with stacks on stacks of racks on racks and I just feel like they have no free time at all. That's no way to go through life, son.
