I fuckin' love ebay sometimes. I made £150 today alone, and I still have a load of shit up on there. The best bit is I'm breaking even (woo).
I'm still considering losing my amp because I've not really been doing the doom for a while now, and as great sounding as it is, that's it's true calling.

I hate Ebay. I sold a shirt on there the other day and they took $10 away from it, then when I go to transfer the money from paypal to my bank account it takes even more money. It all adds up after awhile.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
So I lurk here more than way more than I post in my favorite room of the house (the doomiest one), due to being between summer jobs and whatnot; but I thought I'd share my recent acquisition (or acquisitions?):

I'm really pleased with the ones I'm keeping, but I already had a few of these CDs, and Hydra Head packaged duplicates, I guess just to clear out the office. I received 37 CDs for $40, free shipping.
I'm trying to get rid of the spares I have, so I put them up in BST. Anybody got any cool CDs they would want to trade?

I dislike eBay. It's too expensive and there are too many time wasters there.
I never thought I'd hear you say you're not playing teh Doomz much any more.
misterstomach wrote:also, i am unfortunately having to sell my marshall jcm 800. another unfortunate thing is that i can't really do paypal right now, so i probably can't really offer it up here, which really sucks, cause i'd like to offer it to you guys. it's an amazing amp. if anyone's local to portland and interested, hit me up. i was doing a lot better financially for a minute there, but it's recently been a perfect storm of bullshit that has just wiped me out.
That sucks, man. All the best with things.

I have a few local friends who do it and I think with my math skills, love for working with my hands, and desire to create things I will be proud of, I could do relatively well.
Awesome, mate. I'd support you 100%.
AxAxSxS wrote:So I'm looking at options for a new career and had several meeting with a voc rehab counselor. Electrical engineering is looking like a good way to go and based off my test scores they think I'd be good for that. So I may be headed back to school in big way. Lots of good paying jobs in that field and amp building and what not should be a breeze.
Also didn't read back but Tony sent me a message about someone needing an amp. I have two that are kinda extra now. The ACC 150 is in great shape and I have it listed kinda high but would be glad to work out a DR discount.
The other one is the Soundtronics 200 watt wierdo all tube amp I have. This things crazy awesome and sounds really fucking good. Why am I thinking about parting with it? It uses 4 no longer in production 8417's and a 7199. These can still be had but are not cheap. Now that I have the sunn it's kinda redundant and I'd rather take amps that are cheaper to maintain out and about. I'm looking to get 400 out of that thing if it goes.
Hit me up if you want to hear sound clips or know more about either.
I envy your fearlessness. I really want to study Electrical Engineering as well, but I'm frightened to invest four years of my life into a subject I'm not very good at. I have ideas for amps and pedals and guitars, but no real idea on whether or not they're possible without an education. Well, I KNOW most of them are not possible without using DSP. It kinda depresses me sometimes.
Still, I'd buy your amps!

Yeah, I've mostly been playing Dinosaur Jr and Pixies style stuff recently. I think I might be interested in an.....*whisper*....AC30. I love me some fuzz, but I've not really been into my doom or even metal lately. I'm really digging loud/QUIET/loud stuff; melody with a fuzzy kick.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
Yeah, I like that style too. I don't actually play Doom that much myself. I've always been a Sludge and Post-Metal fan more so than traditional Doom. The Whores. guitar style is closer to mine than, say, WITTR or Sleep. I do love playing long, drawn out riffs ala Sleep, but I get bored quickly. I play a ton of different stuff really, but hopefully always sound like myself.

My only hope is that each musician can synthesize all of their favorite styles into something reasonably coherent. That's my goal anyway.

That'd be a tricky one. How does one integrate jangly Smiths licks into a Dopesmoker-esque riff? I'd be too scared to see what happens when you mix Cardiacs with Neurosis

I do it all the time. That's not a brag. It's just what I've picked up naturally over time.

Coherency is not always important unless you're putting together a record, and even then quirkiness can act in your favour and help define your sound. But yeah, consistency and trueness is important.
