I can't wrap my head around some of that explanation. It looks like it could be super cool though.
I'm waiting to see a full demo. Also Make Noise guy sounds like a Kyle Mooney character from SNL

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
It's basically a one voice synth but with a more west coast (despite the name
) approach.
I.e. no typical filter but a sort of waveshaper/wavefolder, some random voltage generator, some crossfading options, a low-pass gate type thing, etc.
I've got to say, it looks really nice. And I've been quite satisfied by the Makenoise modules I have so far (the amount of hype they get can seem annoying but they are good people who make really good modules so in that case it's deserved hype). I already have a modular but otherwise I would be very tempted by one of these. And then I'd probably get a proper euro case anyway...
It also seems to be quite small and portable, so pretty good for people who want small setups. One of these and a Mother32 would complement each other very nicely and you'd have enough stuff inside to be occupied for a long time without having free space in a big case that would whisper "spend money on me" to your ear everyday

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Thanks! I was just checking on some more stuff about it. I didn't know there was a West Coast/East Coast difference. It seems cool for me who wants to patch stuff up to my Microbrute and SQ1 but is too broke for Eurorack.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
West coast/East coast is an outdated separation but it applied in the 70's to differentiate between typical substractive modular synths (Moog-type) with a VCO-Filter-VCA/Envelope architecture, typically used with traditional keyboards by composers like Wendy Carlos for example and the Buchla/Serge approach, that focused more on wavefolding/shaping for sound generation and with more use of controlled random, also with non-traditional controllers. Buchla worked a lot with composers like Morton Subotnick on that sort of things.
Now, it doesn't really mean anything anymore but it's just a way of saying whether the modules follow a classical substractive synth approach (the Moog Mother32 does for example but it adds lots of new cool tricks) or a more Buchla-influenced approach. Makenoise do enough stuff to cover everything, like most modular manufacturers, but they seem a bit more influenced by the Serge/Buchla modulars in terms of modules types, multi-functionality, etc. Tony Rolando (Makenoise founder) used to work at Moog though, so it's definitely all mixed up
.
Anyway, in the end these are all super nice instruments, it's hard to go wrong with what's available these days.
And if you have a SQ1 and a Microbrute this would indeed add a lot of interesting options. I still haven't seen a detailed description with all the sub-modules but from that video it looks well designed...

DoS
The soundmachines lightplane, and the lightstrip are affordable and useful controllers.
The lightplane gives you the x & y outputs of a joystick plus pressure sensitivity and can record and playback short recordings.
They're working on new versions at the moment with a few improvements too.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Did somebody say submodules?
Roland has updated the customizer app for the Aira FX, with 16 new submodules...

Formant filter, tube clip, logic, short delay, crossfader...and another fortune that I'll never have to spend on boring shit.
Still nothing to make the Scooper auto-record & erase, but there is a midi to CV note submodule now, which is also a pretty big deal.
I feel like I'm missing out on the Demora now, because of the experience I have with the app already. You can do a lot of cool shit to your delay repeats with 30 submodules...and these new ones, well I guess I'm going to have to complete the set now.

Also, I was subscribed to Makenoise's YouTube channel, but I just unsubscribed because all their demo vids are boring.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
God damn, this thread is a fascinating and helpful read. Planning on getting a complete voice this summer to dip the toes in modularity, and the Lifeforms and the 0-coast are both now high on the list. Beautiful, beautiful.
Any of y'all have experience wight DIY? Do you have any suggestions for great DIY shit to look at?

Look in Muffwiggler, aside from some of us ILF is pretty new to modular as a whole.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
So the Strymon Generalissimo has been fully unveiled and it actually sounds pretty awesome. Basically a four head version of dTape with a fully featured sound on Sound mode which has all the degradation and splice stuff. They've done well for their first foray into the world of euro, I think.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
I unno, a lot of annoying posts there. Some dude in the NAMM 2016 eurorack thread is talking about how all these people getting into eurorack is going to ruin the format forever. Weird fucking place. I want to get 100 posts to start selling shit but it sort of just sucks to post there. ILF is like the best forum by far.D.o.S. wrote:Muffwiggler is terrifying in the best way ever.
