i think it's just a sign of wanting to be color coordinated. certainly would look better than the Madonna-style bleached-blonde hair/black eyebrows look, no?

i suppose you'd still get a certain amount of odd texturing, but it probably would lose the pattern after about 1/2" of growth.

what's really heinous is the guy with the man bun and his stripe shaved through the beard. he looks like a human dazzle ship except that the pattern doesn't break up his outline.
