Finishing my tele body to make a second VI. All that's left is to clear coat it, then assemble. Side note, I really should've worn gloves.

DC Kunkle, but that's probably what you found? They're awesome. Same quality as an American Fender from what I can tell.

I second that the DC Kunkle is great. Its a super thick neck though, which some may find offputting.

Does this require moving the bridge or anything, or can you literally slap this neck onto any guitar body with a Fender sized neck pocket and you're in Bass VI country?

Yeah dude, it's a conversion neck so nothing has to get moved around.

No, you can't. First, you need a 25.5" scale body -- a Strat, Tele, Jazzmaster or some other 25.5" Fender. Another thing you have to consider is the shape of the neck pocket -- there's Strat style (rounded) and Tele style (straight).

Wow this is awesome. Thinking about converting a'51. I'm assuming I'd need a different bridge? Or at least bigger saddles for the bass vi strings, yeah?

Warmth has a 28 5/8" conversion neck that'll work with a Strat or Tele body as does Moses which makes a graphite neck for Strat and Tele conversions. I had a tele with a moses neck a long time ago. It sounded great but was super out of balance but I never tried moving the position of the strap buttons which might have helped that.

I should be getting my new pawnshop VI on Tuesday. It's getting a full setup and electronics (pickups and pots) and hardware overhaul (nut, bridge/trem, shielding and pickguard). Hopefully I can get some recording done with it next week.

We were talking about the DC Kunkle necks specifically.

I've got an old Epi strat clone from the '80s with a neck that suffers from severe fret sprout and an owner who can't fit his fat fingers with all the winky little strings. Ressurrecting it as a Bass VI would be an interesting use for what's left of it, as it was my first guitar and I feel some sort of attachment to it.

I'd have to measure the pocket, but I suspect it's 100% Fender clone.

Now I just need to save some money and find some time. How hard was filing a nut blank?

GFS sells pre-slotted bone nuts, they're good quality and easy to work with, provided you've got proper nut files.

So apparently this was a thing, as much as anything that shipped fewer than 70 units between '60 and '61 can be called a thing. Gibson EB-6.
