the 2x12 has Eminence Cannibis Rex speakers, and the cab itself is a 70's PA speaker cabinet that the guy had converted to a smaller 2x12. It feels extremely heavy and well built. Plan is to sand it down and stain it either mahogany or green in the future.

That makes me sad, but that silver Diabolical rig is all sorts of sex.

dumb question that I'm assuming I know the answer to, but are those foam pads for protecting your power tubes from the vibration of your cab? If so, that's a great idea. That's why my head is sitting on that shelf. Never thought of that.

It's an argued concept. I did do it to separate the cab from the cabinet. The foam came with a TV we bought. Some people don't think the vibrations from a cab are enough to put wear on your Tubes. Or, I've read one person say that if your cab vibrates that much get a better cab. My opinion is that they were there, I saw a use and any further separation between the cab and head can't be a bad thing.

I read somewhere that power tubes in combo amps, especially high power ones wear out sooner than in the equivelent head. I don't know if this is fact or not but the 'why' is something to ponder and maybe it is the vibration factor.

I was told that by the guy who serviced and retubed my head last. The tube combo amp is the exact example he used. It doesn't bother me to separate it whether it's "proven" or not. If it extends their life even a little then I'd say it's worth it.

There are definitely a lot of vibrations throwing through my Fryette Memphis 30 because I play it at 80% of its power and level all the time and because it gives you an orgasm when you sit on it. The original tubes have lasted a long time, but the new ones I bought only lasted a few months before the signal started to drop intermittently. I think it depends on the design of the cabinet, the tubes themselves, how clean the contacts are, and probably a lot more factors. The Memphis chassis is well isolated (like most valve combos the tubes are hanging down in front of the magnet of the speaker, but they're enclosed in a grated aluminium housing), the cabinetry is thick and heavy, and there is padding on the inside. I figure that's to 'swallow' some of the frequencies that will 'shake the foundation', so to speak.

The way I see it, if you can rattle pictures off the wall like I could do with a Hiwatt Custom 100 through a 2x12 then you can, over time, damage the tubes and even, under extreme circumstances, loosen solder joints. There is no way to test this though.

guitar-> blue box script (c11 mod)-> wylde wah-> phase 90-> dod chorus-> SPLIT
line 1 from chorus goes to mxr zw44-> way huge aquapuss-> Peavey VTM60-> 4x12 celestion g12T's
line 2 from chorus goes to Ampeg SS-140c-> 4x12 celestion classic 60's
LINE OUT from Ampeg-> aby box (on/offswitch)-> mantic density hulk-> Peavey "The Bass"-> 2x15 eminence legends
Freaking rad setup. triphonic rigs rule!

I've recently cut down to two amps for gigging but I thik I might go back to three. it just sounds better.
