I hesitate to get back into this, but what exactly did you find unreasonable or irrational about a handful of women in bands starting an online petition to let a company know that a product they were peddling was perpetuating an unwelcoming environment for women in rock?frodog wrote:Which brings me to the last part, which I partly disagree with. I absolutely do not think the PM was a funny product, but nor do I think the objections to it were very reasonable and handled really rationally. Not that the replies were much better. But on the whole that was a silly argument all around I think, which did absolutely nothing to advance anyone's cause except the band, who cashed in. Ted Leo said that TC should "hire women!", as if forcing a company to do that would solve anything. I'm sure no guitar pedal company would reject the idea of anybody working there who applied and had the qualifications. It's these kinds of arguments that I find counterproductive, when based on a joke, people will jump on demonizing a whole industry.

Just that it's such a reach to assume that a toneprint would do just that, keep women away from playing rock. I would think there are much bigger issues that make the music scene unwelcoming to anyone wanting to be in a "rock band". Essentially wasting energy on petitioning against a joke you do not find funny, loosely wrapping it in socio-political terms to attribute a more sinister meaning to it... seems disingenuous and unreasonable, yes.Benn Roe wrote:I hesitate to get back into this, but what exactly did you find unreasonable or irrational about a handful of women in bands starting an online petition to let a company know that a product they were peddling was perpetuating an unwelcoming environment for women in rock?
