So I'm about to embark on a journey to find a tall sunn 4x12 for cheap. I'm routing a map of all the pawn shops in the northside of chicago and hoping that somehow someone will have one. That or maybe at least some good cab with the sunn logo on it. I'm ready to get rid of this avatar cab, I'm starting realize that the speakers are either too boomy or too shrill and never a good in between. I want something new so bad.

Ancient Astronaught wrote:Thanks guys!!!! It's not a "major label" but its definitely a non DIY, well established label. My only concern is that they are more interested in our Electronic Album, and less in our full band "rock" album... so if it takes off its gonna kind of steer our future music writings in a certain direction.
I'd personally be weary of that. I'd hate to have someone steering me in a direction I don't want to go musically. I'm not so talented and special that I only play what I want to play, but at the same time I'd like to keep my passions clear and not break my integrity for the sake of others.

I am weary, this is a fear i've had for a while since we put that album together. As it pretty much makes my spot in the band redundant and easily replaced by a simple preprogrammed loop on ableton. But the band reassures me that won't happen, but only time shall tell. No labels seemed interested in our "rock" album when it got passed around and within 2 weeks we get an offer on this other "electronic" album. You gotta look at it objectively, if this is what gets us attention and what will propel the band forward and upward then the band should go for it. I just struggle with my musical integrity, but its something I may have to sacrifice if theres a good chance that it will lead to the band being a full time job that can support my family. Plus if I'm able to go fulltime with the band it will actually free up alot of my schedule and possibly lead to me having the time to do a side project that is more in the vein of exactly what I want to do.

This is very true, and I highly responsible outlook to have. There is no shame in sacrificing certain aspects of your dream to make sure you get there in the end. In other words, you might have to put up with a purely electronic album or two before you and the band are able to move on to bigger and better things. Electronic music is awesome and you and the band would do it a great service, but if it's rock where your heart lies then eventually you'll have to start progressing towards there. Good luck, mate. You don't need it, but still.

just got home from a great little tour a couple of days ago. we had a fantastic time and played some good shows. got to meet peter (ridingeternity) which was great. good dude there. also got to hang out with brett again (live-i-evil). also a good dude. got to have will ride along to sell merch and drink heavily which was fucking awesome. i love touring so fucking much. we're going to have to do more of it. i had a weird lung infection cough thing the whole time which kind of sucked. made vocals an interesting challenge. but then i got home and the doc prescribed me some sizzurp. i was high as shit, chillin' like lil wayne or something last night. feeling better already. normally i'm a total hippie and don't take shit like that and rely on natural and herbal medicines for most of my ills, but i was so fucking sick of coughing and i have insurance, so i said fuck it. plus, it's fun to see what all the hype is about with the codeine cough syrup in the rap songs.

sunn has made some great stuff, but they also made a lot of mediocre gear and some total garbage over the years, including a of of underpowered cabs and such. the only thing the sunn name promises you is that you will be paying too much for hipster doom cred. if you happen to find a good piece of sunn gear at a decent price, then by all means go for it, but that's almost impossible to do now. avatar makes good cabs. might be easier/cheaper to get new speakers. or just put a sunn logo on it.
just kidding.
also, if you like sunn's cab designs, look into monolith speakers in portland. wade makes replica's of some of sunn's cooler classic designs and they're well built.

Awesome to hear about the tour Parker!!!! Glad you made it home relatively safe and sound! Enjoy that sizzurp, don't forget to dilute it with koolaid!
As far as monolith cabs goes..... I'm not sure hes still in business, nor would I place an order with him. Just google "talkbass monolith cabs" and it will explain everything if you haven't heard all ready. It sucks because his tectonic shift pedal is amazing!!!
