God, Metalsucks is essentially Blabbermouth but somewhat less aloof. Only reason to ever go there is when Kim Kelly posts/runs the site.

Does the Southern Lord remaster sound different? Or is it like the Dopesmoker remaster--quieter drums and bass, and basically just 'remastered' because they don't want to say "we'd like to keep it in print'?
From what I heard of the SL remaster at my mate's place, its like the last Dopesmoker in that there's quite a bit of cleaning up in the mix and shit sounds a bit more...vibrant. Which is a gay thing to say about High in Fire I know. I heard the new Dopesmoker when it first came out and I though "what the fuck? There's notihng new here!" but then after giving it a rest and going back and forth between the two (not counting Jerusalem) its enough of a difference to make it just that little bit better. AoSD needed it though. If that album sounded as good as Death is this Communion does it would be the end of heavy music. World beater, right there.
Anyway, my amp just stopped working, if anyone cares to get me back into making noise, I started a thread about it. Please help.
Also sunlight is the murderer of black band shirts.

AoSD sounds like a kajillon times better than Communion, but I know what you're saying.

I'm not sure about how the TH30 is built but does it have separate tubes for each channel? You can put a lower gain tube in V1 to bring the gain down on your dirt channel. Something like a 12AT7 or a 12AU7. I did this on the first Redbear head I ever had and it pretty much stayed clean all the way up until around 8 or so.

I get mine from dougstubes.com and they've always been helpful everytime I emailed them. I don't remember the tone sucking when I had lower gain tubes in there, it still sounded the same to me, but that was about 15 years ago when I did it. I thought I needed two channels and that's how I got it. Now days I only use one channel and it's all dirt with a volume pedal for cleans.

12at7s are as fine compared to any other pretubes. Its a matter of if the stage is designed for it or not. Swapping other pretubes in stages designed for 12ax7s can give mixed results.

Yeah I was thinking of using a thin piece of aluminum, or if I can find it, really darkly tinted plexiglass. And use it to extend the awkward awning as well as use it to make sides for it, basically make a pedal board box.
The Umbrella hat could work though!!!! I'd more likely want to wear it on my head then my pedalboard though.....

Ancient Astronaught wrote:So I've got one of these tele bridges coming in:

Gonna slap it on the tele custom in my avatar so I can retain the original look but have individual adjustment of string intonation. I love the ashtray style bridges but they usually only come in 3 saddle which doesnt work for drop tunings, and most of the 6 saddle bridges are the flat bridge plate style that I don't like.
Now I just have to decide what tuning I'm gonna put it in, thinking either C standard or Drop A#. Or just going full doom and doing straight Drop A.

Need to decide this first so I can then decide what strings to go with. But I'm uncertain since this will mainly be for jamming at home and my solo project.
I also have another blank Callaham tele bridge coming in from MEC to put on my white telemaster that he built.
It's gonna be a busy few weeks getting all my guitars finishing touches completed finally.
When I upgrade the bridge and saddles on my Telecaster Custom, I'll buy one with a cut-out in the tray for fingerpicking styles. The standard tray gets in the way sometimes. I use hybrid-picking techniques a lot and it's annoying.

Yeah guys, candy apple red blows. I love that red wine stain that Gibson used to do though. I made an el cheapo LP once that I stained half red half black Japan and it looked the tits. Pity I can't build a player.
Those dark natural finishes those sgs come in though are pretty sweet. I loved the one you posted there Ryan, but I was a little let down at the chrome hardware. That photo makes it look black, which is way cooler.
I can't stand gold.
White gold is ok.
Women that wear yellow gold instantly set of my bitch alert radar. Not sure why.
I love Candy Apple Red is awesome on a Telecaster. Cream binding, traditional scratchplate. Oh yeah!
Mudfuzz wrote:conky wrote:And like Angry Goldfish said before, the red SG looks tacky. It looks even worse in person and felt cheap too. I'd rock the fuck out of one of the other finishes though.

all gibson's faded red instruments look tacky

This is true.

anyone know where to score good tubes in europe - and got recommendations on good EL84's and 12AX7's - I actually want to decrease gain on the gain channel and decrease headroom on the clean channel, so if you guys know specific setups that'd be cool!
I use
http://www.hotroxuk.com. They're good. I thought you were in America though?
