On topic, though, if you're actually looking for "fuzz not distortion" the Supercollider will not fit the bill for what you're looking for, even though it is sex (and doom) in a box. Badascan doesn't really shine until/unless you're playing with other people but its the tits.
Every time these threads come up, the supercollider is always mentioned, but what about the Beast? Do guitarists not like the Beast?
p.s. KILL YOUR HEAD.

Tone Machines have this sweet mechanical whiring quality to it, kinda fuzzstortiony like a muff. But the octave is nasty, more so than a super fuzz but probably not as crazy as scrambler.
Megalith sounds like a winner. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled.
futuresailors wrote:Our very own schlatte makes a mean uber muff. Choose your base, couple clipping options and dat pregain stage. Kind of like a megalith but can do lower gain.
Low gain? Where we're going, we don't need low gain. I'll give it a look though - sounds super interesting

I bet he does. And he's making them fuck in hopes of creating the most unobtaium animal of all time
betacloud wrote:recently acquired a deluxe big muff... totally blown away by it. $100 used at GC. they go for $120 new.
i guess mike matthews just sought out to create a muff that could do what some modern builders did; a muff that could sound like basically any muff with some tweaking...
a bass boost, high and low q switch, (and footswitchable second level and frequency for the mids... BOOM), an attack switch that blends in some clean frequencies for serious chord/note definition, and a really nifty gate that actually quiets it down dead silent!
I hadn't even seen these. Looks solid, especially for the price.

I don't know. I don't play six string guitar, and I haven't played much bass recently either -- but also I got on the Supercollider kick before the Beast was a thing so I never felt the need to buy another... until I wanted to play out, which was when Mark decided to go on hiatus or whatever the first time.

I've always wanted one. I've had most of the Supercolliders and keep a mini on my board but I haven't tried a Beast yet.

As a cab driver, all this talk of uber is really bumming me out.
Seriously though, I was introduced to the supercollider through playing a beast in a tour box. I loved the shit out of it, but I found the extra features to be kind of weak and generally unappealing as an add on. When I learned you could get all of the awesome and none of the other shit in a smaller, cheaper box, I had to have it.

The deluxe big muff is actually pretty intriguing, that mid filter especially. I wanna try one out. For those that have it, how gated does it really get? Most demos never go past noon on the gate knob.

This.
It's beyond me why a company like EHX that's pretty much famous for their iconic BMP, is being copied and cloned by every pedal company and amatuer builder out there. Boutique, cheapo chinese, small time diy, you name it, everyone and their mothers are making muff clones and variants...
Meanwhile every other week or so EHX comes up with a new weird awesome effects that are totally 'out there'. But DON'T offer quality reissues of the Ram's head, cold war, triangle, opamp,...
Yet, there's mini/nano/deluxe/dubble/little versions of their bass/wicker/metal/germanium/whatever "muffs"...

But who is going to buy it?
Seriously. If you want a Rams head, what are the odds you (or anyone else who's into boutique pedals) are going to buy the "official' EHX version? And if you don't know any better.... you'll just buy the cheaper one.

Me
But I guess I'm alone, I suspect Mr Matthews knows a thing or two about marketing, so I assume there must be a good reason why they're focusing on a different market

I mean why would you buy it from EHX instead of one of our builders, you know?

D.o.S. wrote:I mean why would you buy it from EHX instead of one of our builders, you know?
Yeah, EHX kinda missed the boat, the only reason why I'd go for the EHX one would be price related. I guess they could go for bigger quantities and reach a much broader dealer netwerk and what not. Same reason why the ehx nyc muff is bringing in much more monies as a musket, which obviously whipes the floor with the ehx nyc muff. So a quality reissue of, say an opamp muff, that looks like the old one, with maybe an added mid switch or whatever little extra, and at a price that's slightly lower than that of the competition...
...I bet they'd sell like condoms at a gangbang
But again, I'm not an overpayed ehx marketeer, I'm sure they've done they maths, it's probably not all that simple.
But I'm still hoping what I wrote is sort of a prophecy, and ehx is reading this and taking notes, and they eventually reward me with a lifetime supply of their pedlols...

You're welcome
I would've used the old "sell like hotcakes" expression, but decided to avoid the pun, what with the hotcake being a somewhat famous overdrive pedal and all...
