Nothing works. best just remove the whole finish and start again.
Well, I had been considering using a controlled blast of micro-fine shrapnel, but you've already saved me countless hours with your finishing advice, so I'll just go with what you said

I've tried stone picks though & haven't liked 'em. :idk:
Hmm Yeah I have an agate pick too and feel the same.. definitely have a different sound than even glass though.. maybe I'll get a jade one next time I have to track something on a acoustic... :idk:

Hey Chank what didn't you like about stone picks? I have been considering getting one and a friend loves his, but interested in hearing a negative opinion too

I don't like the attack. Too clicky. The noise of the pick hittin' the string is too much for me. :(

Yeah, other people seem to love 'em. :idk:

To follow up on that: how does one reduce the pick noise on strings? Sometimes I think I’m only hearing it acoustically but it bothers me, too.

I like flatwound strings to slightly reduce noise on the wound strings.

Using a pick made of a softer material, I've found, is also helpful. I like wooden picks.

I like the wooden picks too, though I tend to shred the hell out'of'em? Any particular ones you like for tone/durability? I'm trying some bamboo picks right now - other than the shape being too pointy (which can be rectified), I like'em....

I've mainly used ebony & rosewood. The ebony's a bit more durable.

Have you tried felt picks? I know the few jazz bassists who play with a pick extensively like them

Yep, once. I thought the felt was gonna be really soft. It wasn't. :idk: It was treated with something to make it really stiff. Way too stiff for me. :D

It wore much too quickly as well. Like felt shredding off the pick. Another material not for me.
