Well, I had been considering using a controlled blast of micro-fine shrapnel, but you've already saved me countless hours with your finishing advice, so I'll just go with what you saidBlackened Soul wrote:Nothing works. best just remove the whole finish and start again.Dandolin wrote:Chank, hwat's the best way to buff out fine scratches on a nitrocellulose finish? thx in advance
Hmm Yeah I have an agate pick too and feel the same.. definitely have a different sound than even glass though.. maybe I'll get a jade one next time I have to track something on a acoustic...Chankgeez wrote:I've never tried an agate slide. I don't like the attack. Too clicky. The noise of the pick hittin' the string is too much for me.
Yeah, other people seem to love 'em.

Re: ask Chank
To follow up on that: how does one reduce the pick noise on strings? Sometimes I think I’m only hearing it acoustically but it bothers me, too.

Re: ask Chank
I like flatwound strings to slightly reduce noise on the wound strings.
Using a pick made of a softer material, I've found, is also helpful. I like wooden picks.

I like the wooden picks too, though I tend to shred the hell out'of'em? Any particular ones you like for tone/durability? I'm trying some bamboo picks right now - other than the shape being too pointy (which can be rectified), I like'em....

Re: ask Chank
I've mainly used ebony & rosewood. The ebony's a bit more durable.

Have you tried felt picks? I know the few jazz bassists who play with a pick extensively like them

Re: ask Chank
Yep, once. I thought the felt was gonna be really soft. It wasn't.
It was treated with something to make it really stiff. Way too stiff for me.
It wore much too quickly as well. Like felt shredding off the pick. Another material not for me.
