the next reissue of Siamese Dream will omit the snare roll because jimmy "fucking hated the 90s"
so the thing that really stuck with me is billy saying "i just want my work to have the place that it should"
like in a 'canon of rock' context i suppose.
and i agree with that - and it made me wonder, why do people not take his work as seriously as they should?
1 great indie album, 2 great major label albums - everything since we can ignore in terms of great works, right?
and, yes, the person billy corgan made it very easy to laugh at him in recent years, and perhaps this has influenced the general opinion of the importance of a record like siamese dream or mellon collie.
and of course, there are people who think he sucks and was never worth giving a shit about, and i can see where they are coming from totally. even tho i was a huge fan as a kid.
i think a big problem with the pumpkins legacy is that billy couldnt decide if he was a solo artist or a frontman. he tried to be a frontman to the world but a solo artist in all other ways. this is not a sustainable model.
also, it makes people take you less seriously?

i dunno thats about the extent of energy i have on this topic for now

billy used the mxr phase 100 and biphase,
small stone>>>p100
And the fact he taped it to a Flying V increases the awesome
I love pretty much everything the Pumpkins did from the pre-Gish stuff all the way to Machina II but I haven't dug anything Billy has done since that final Metro show, except maybe the reissues of the old stuff ;p

So, I think what rubs me most raw is that the son of a bitch set up the worst goddamn webcam ever to broadcast the event. It looks and sounds like an apple II ate the show.

1999 is calling, Mr. Corgan. Your ISDN line is ready.

See that actually makes it sound kind of cool.

Of course it is. Welcome to the nightmare of old people, when their youth gets coopted by cretins.
Sort of how I felt the first time with Billy and the gang coming around. ;0

Seems like it, redoing Shakespeare for centuries has given way to redoing "The Odd Couple" for eternity though.

All I've gotta say is growing up a small town hick where the only view from my door was a cow's ass, the Pumpkins opened me up to new sonic possibilities that led directly through Hum to discovering My Bloody Valentine. I'll be forever grateful to the Pumpkins for that, but I kinda wish Corgan would fall off the face of the earth for a bit so I could get back to enjoying those albums without his smiling jack-o-lantern head hovering in my thoughts.

Ugly Nora wrote:The last good thing the Pumpkins released was the Lull EP in '91. Yes, it's true. I'm sorry, or maybe I'm not, but Siamese Dream was a huge step down from Gish. I remember when Gish first came out, everyday after work I would get stoned and listen to it on my Walkman while I masturbated. Yes, it was that good. Good times were had by all. Well, by me at least.
That said, why would Vice waste time writing about about an irrelevant person? Seems like he really is still relevant or Vice are just being dicks. Or maybe both but perhaps neither. It just seems silly to spend energy and effort writing a story about someone who is irrelevant to simply be dicks or to make money or to do both. Surely they could find something more "relevant" to write about. What a world we live in.
Its to fill space. When you think about it, Vice has a shitload of sister sites and all of them need a pretty regular flow of content to keep them from looking empty. Shit like this is perfect filler in between Vice's top drawer content. It's pretty funny, probably took about ten minutes to write and isn't written like shit.
An intern probably wrote it too.
