so the thing that really stuck with me is billy saying "i just want my work to have the place that it should"
like in a 'canon of rock' context i suppose.
and i agree with that - and it made me wonder, why do people not take his work as seriously as they should?
1 great indie album, 2 great major label albums - everything since we can ignore in terms of great works, right?
and, yes, the person billy corgan made it very easy to laugh at him in recent years, and perhaps this has influenced the general opinion of the importance of a record like siamese dream or mellon collie.
and of course, there are people who think he sucks and was never worth giving a shit about, and i can see where they are coming from totally. even tho i was a huge fan as a kid.
i think a big problem with the pumpkins legacy is that billy couldnt decide if he was a solo artist or a frontman. he tried to be a frontman to the world but a solo artist in all other ways. this is not a sustainable model.
also, it makes people take you less seriously?
