We should collaborate on a secret ILF fuzz. Even though there has already been one. The 2012ILF Lab Ratchet which is awesome.

Hey, absolutely. I could whip up a pcb design no problem; we'd just have to come up with a circuit. You have something in mind? Seems like you've tried out and modded quite a few.

Not really. I kind of have an idea for a 12ax7 valve overdrive based on the Coloursound Overdriver with 12au7 valve boost. But I don't really have the skills to work it out.

Oh tube stuff, haha. Yeah me neither, really. I don't think I'm up for doing anything with tubes. Is it sacrilege to say I don't see what's so great about tube overdrive, anyway? I'm a child of the transistorized age, I guess. Not that it can't be done, it's just a pretty specialized set of knowledge. Known knowns and known unknowns, you know? Ever see stuff this user puretube posts on diystompboxes now and then? Crazy tube stuff. He just drops it on unsuspecting threads now and then. I was just looking at a 24 stage tube phaser he made:
http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/i ... #msg627346

There are power supply issues to figure out with those, since they need high voltages to work. And with that come extra safety considerations, to make sure the thing is safe for whoever will be using the thing. Anyone can just open up a pedal and poke around in there, change the battery or whatever. Someone might not realize that's a bad idea with tube circuitry.

But yeah, I guess you either have to use wall power and put a transformer and rectifier in the box, or use a special wall wart, or use charge pump circuitry to goose 9V or whatever up to 50V or 100V or 200V or whatever you're going to try to run the tubes at. Usually they're a little starved this way.

There are also submini tubes you can use for stuff. Here's something frequencycentral did with them: http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/i ... ic=78302.0

Plus, IMO, the spirit of the forum-special pedal is something inexpensive, minimal, but cool. Something everyone on the forum can afford to buy if they want to. I think anything tube would be more expensive. I think the Melx Fuzz went for $50. It was just a silicon electra distortion. Idk how much the haunting mids went for originally.

Heck yea. With an envelope follower.

For SRR depth or something ^^^ or pre-gain bass...as notes decay, input bass increases for growlies

That would be awesome.

This post is pretty much like how all the HM fuzzes have come about. Someone says "hey I can do this and I have an idea..."

Two months later people are getting pedals. Its about as special as secret santa or anything an online community might do. HM is more about everyday life stuff than gear and has been for years. The pedalboard thread there only gets a new post about 5 times a year

I feel like my brain starts to melt a bit when I think of fantasy fuzz ideas...

For some reason I crave more momentary switches these days. There are a lot of freakout varieties, but mainly on delays. Some of the ones that show up on gain pedals (Wave Cannon, Rat King) have that kind of glitchy/oscillating vibe... I'd love a fuzz that had a momentary feedback switch that allowed more "traditional" (for lack of a better word) feedback to happen, kind of like if a Boss Super Feedbacker and Distortion had a more interesting fuzz component in place of the distortion.

I know you can do this with your volume knob, but would be fun do do it with your feet for a little more dexterity... I'm sure there's probably something like that already.

(This is just me indulging the desires of my inner Adam Franklin, yet wanting something better than Boss distortion...)

That envelope thing sounds cool, but may require a better mind than mine. Figures a straight clone would be too boring for ILF, haha. Any interest in a super limited super exclusive and pretentious run of inexpensive clones, anyway? Call it, idk, Haunting Fuzz? Fuck Your Mids? The Bee Baa is a very cool circuit, and I'll definitely do something for myself, at least.

My mind has been giggling for about an hour now...
How about a fuzz with mids knob that has a super simple fixed reverb effecting only the mids of course...
Probably completely useless.... But funny still.

I love this idea!

Two insanely simple fuzzes with very different character, in parallel. It's been done before, but not enough! And oscillation on both fuzzes. To not make it a million knobs, although a million knobs is kind of ILF in a nutshell, you could fix the gain, skip tone controls, or maybe have a global LPF, a knob each for oscillation, a mix knob. Volume knob. Maybe a global input gain knob. I dunno.

Or a Klone with voltage sag and oscillation and maybe an insanely loud booster in front of the circuit to drive it crazy. Something like this has been discussed on the SSBS forum for about a million years but Brian has a lot more on his plate than klones.

Or make a 3 knob fuzz, lay it out as a klone, print a horse/centaur/satanic man goat on it, but have a circuit that has absolutely nothing to do with a klon, something with a useable range from high gain fuzz to holy-fuck-this-is-unuseable-in-any-context.

Also don't listen to too many suggestions because we do love our fuzz here...

I love this kind of thinking
"Let's take something that everyone covets and tries to get so close to exact with... AND FUCK IT RIGHT UP, ROYALLY!!"
