I think anything could be argued into anything. For example, a rabbit is a chemical interaction, and so is a fire. A rabbit is a fire.
Let's just leave language alone. Cake is food.

True dat. Sugar, fat, and many other complex chemicals that we eat are mind/body altering drugs.

It's not a bullshit argument. Chemicals in food alter your mind and mood. As do caffeine and all that bullshit in energy drinks. Certain foods trigger serotonin production in the human body, and that's definitely a serious, impactful drug. Some people are more affected by food chemistry than others, but it's definitely a drug interaction.

Now, if you want to narrowly define "drugs" as illegal chemicals that alter your mind, well okay. That's a terribly short-sighted definition, but a lot of people see it that way.

^Especially if he's just smoking the leaves!

Culturejam gets what I'm saying. Benzodiazepines are prescription drugs used for the treatment of sleep and anxiety disorders, but if you pop a bunch of them, you'll be as mellow as yellow. One usage is illegal drug abuse, and the other is legal and helpful. The substance, however, is still the same. To me, anything apart from a dictionary definition of "drug" seems arbitrary.

I do drugs. I like drugs. Drugs have both helped me through shit and created shit for me in the past. Far be it from me to judge anothers vices but i just dont get the present day obsession with weed. Weed is all well and good but when your entire life is an issue of high times.....i get annoyed with you really easily...

i entirely disagree. :idk: first of all, there is more serotonin in the gut than the brain. in fact, MOST of the body's serotonin is not in the brain. also, serotonin is not a drug. serotonin is a neurotransmitter. serotonin's major function really has a lot to do wth digestion. psychoactive drugs work by slightly altering the amounts of many types neurotransmitters the brain specifically gets. all drugs pretty much work as different types of agonists and antagoists on the synapse for different sorts of neurotransmitters. science defines psychoactive drugs as substances that cause temporary changes in the central nervous system by these methods.

now what does this have to do with sugar? sugar, glucose in particular, is FUEL. fuel for your muscle cells, your brain cells, bacteria cells, plant cells, etc. it gives all your cells energy. it does not cause any changes in the brain chemistry as i mentioned above. sugar is not a drug. foods are not drugs unless they contain drugs, if that makes sense.

i'm not arguing that anti depressants and sleeping aids and caffeine what have you are not drugs-- they are. legality or approved medical use of a substance has never been a determining factor. for example, adderall is medical-grade amphetamine and it's handed out to children, even. still a drug :T

saying drugs are only illegal mind altering substances is short sighted. but saying everything that causes chemical changes within you is a drug is pretty much the same kind of ridiculous.

Alright, whatever. Drugs are whatever you want them to be in the context of the argument you're making at the moment.

Some of you guys could ruin any buzz from any drug.
