Haven't lived full-time with the parents since the day I left for college back in the late summer of '95. They supported me through most of college (I paid for the last year), but I lived away from home the whole time.
Paying ALL the bills certainly does bring a new perspective.

Don't make me answer this...

Yeah, I'm 22... Living at home... going to school full-time, but I don't even work.
I intend to get out ASAP when college is through(but not in the sense that I will be getting a job and a place to live, because I'm not psychologically equipped for this kind of thing)... but I've basically been dependent my whole life. While it sounds like a lame excuse, I blame my anxiety problems more than anything. I haven't had most experiences I should have, and I'm still living at home because of how socially inept and anxious I am.
I don't know when I developed this mindset, but it's like I never had a childhood or something. I never grew up, never had a relationship. I might as well be retarded.
I plan on moving staying with friends (at least until I'm settled away from home) and then probably traveling (a few of my friends have chosen this lifestyle as well, and it really seems like the only kind of life I'm capable of managing independently).
YES, I HATE MYSELF.

Don't worry, you're not alone. We all hate you tooI'MJUSTKIDDING. Sorry the insult comic inside me took over for a second.
I can empathize with a lot of what you've said. It's why I ended up back here (with my parents that is). I loved being independent for a while, but certain, unmanaged circumstances led me on a bit of a downward spiral.
I also hate myself, but I've gotten to the point where I rarely say it out loud uncontrollably anymore.

I'm finishing up college this June (fucking finally), but that means I'm going to be moving back in with the family. They're not too bad, though. My mom's actually pretty cool. Her favorite band is black sabbath if that's any indicator.
I like my freedom, though. I need my own space to play super nintendo drunk, and possibly naked. So I'm going to try to get a raise/more hours at the job and see if I can get a new place with the GF. I guess we'll see how that goes.

Dude! Same here. It's easier to live with family especially in the San Francisco Bay Area.
I learned how to live with them a few years ago, so it's really not that bad.
Even though I'm only 22, I'm mature enough to understand how to live with parents, so yay.
Soon they'll be living with me instead of me living with them too haha

I think the only thing worse than living with your parents too long is only moving out when you get married. Of course, that's what my woman has basically done.

I could only move in with a woman after spending several years living completely alone. There's something magical about doing WHATEVER THE FUCK YOU WANT in and with your domicile for an extended period of time. I didn't clean my bathroom for like 6 months at one point. It even grossed my friends out, they would piss outside during the weekly boozing. Pretty awesome.

I think I got all that bachelorhood crap out of my system that way. Of course I still wander around the house whilst naked/drunk on regular occasion, but that's just me being me really.

I now own my second home, with the soon-to-be Mrs. Ghost, although about 8 months ago,I lived with my pop,who I got stoned with frequently. But dude, you can't really jerk off/fuck/be naked at yr Paw's. Shit really cramped my style,as far as meeting my nakey-time quota goes

lolz a lot of truth here.
Is it a new thing to stay with your parents well into adulthood? My only frame of reference is my family really, pops was in Vietnam at 19 and momz was living with friends in her early 20s. Well, and my grandfather was booted out at 14: "good luck son, we can't afford ye and your 9 brothers and sisters, write if you can." I'm about to turn 32, by this age my other grandpa had been to WWII and Korea, had 3 kids, a wife, and a mistress even. Extended age = extended youth foolishness? I have zero plans on growing up anytime soon but I did get my own roof ages upon ages ago, but maybe that whole thing is an American Ideal: get out and on your own as quickly as possible, and if you don't, you're a LOSER. Maybe that doesn't make sense after all, we try and spread as far apart as we can and bitch about the 3 holidays a year we're forced to deal with one another, rather than keeping a close knit family and taking care of each other in
these desperate times, shit I dunno, guess I'm still writin...

it's definitely an American thing.
Immigrant families like mine tend to stick together. It's much better. Like many have said, it has its disadvantages
but it has advantages
