Here's my fave local jazz-y album of the year:

The Brodie West Quintet - Clips

Like most of the Toronto crew, Brodie plays all the time with everyone in town but isn't super well-known outside the city. Trained with Misha Mengelberg and has played with all the Amsterdam cats, through which he met The Ex and toured with them in the horn section when they were playing with Getatchew Mekurya.

This band is groovy, but really well-considered in a compositional sense... the dual percussionists add a sort of dense, off-kilter underpinning to the music at times.

Listened a lot to Alice Coltrane in 2018, went quite deep through all her catalog, even the latest albums, but I always end up going back to this one

Hope I didn't miss it, I don't think this one has been posted. RIPPER of an LP on Family Vineyard from last year.

Nice, anything with Corsano's always gonna be good! :!!!:

Seems like a great channel too. Wasn't subscribed to that one. :snax:

Corsano is always fantastic, yes. this record is not quite as ferocious as some of his stuff, but wonderfully musical.

I'm actually listening to another Corsano thing right now I'm about to post in "what are you listening to right now?"

I don't know anything about this album at all, really, but a friend was praising David Murray Trio's "3-D Family" last night...

On another (free shreddin') track entirely, here's a recent-ish field recording I made of Chris Corsano + Bill Nace: http://mechanicalforestsound.blogspot.c ... -belt.html
