I think the high price suggests they're trying to recoup their development funds back too rapidly. I get that they spent a substantial amount of time retooling this, investing in mold fees, et cetera, but you can't get it all back right away. I think they're shooting themselves in the foot by asking for this much right out of the gate.lordgalvar wrote:I was on the preorder list for the gizmotron. Saw them at NAMM too. It's cool, but not 450 cool. I was really excited, but saw the mounting stuff before NAMM and the final construction just strokes me as cheesy. But I also have a bias against plastics (and it is somewhat irrational I guess...just hate that everything has plastic haha).
Yea, when I saw the price I backed down. I think it went up 50-100 dollars. But I think it is really cool. They just needed to take it up one notch in design to really get me to justify it (but I don't know what that step would be).
Dang, was typing this up as you posted
When you factor in all the accessories, it looks like this is more like $500-550. If you compare that to the versatility of a MIDI synth, it seems hard to justify the pricing. You could get a used GR-55 or a Minilogue for the same price point and have hundreds of bonus sounds compared to the Gizmotron II.
I don't know if they're being greedy at this price point, or if they simply over-extended themselves upfront and are desperately trying to recover as quickly as possible. Either way this seems like a disastrous recipe.
