Our other guitarist only has one head and it doesn't stop me. It sounds great. He can crank it and keep up in volume so there's no disparity. It just adds to my tone and makes the overall sound even better. I wish he'd get another head, but I'm not going to let it hold me back. I wouldn't do it if he only had a half stack or something, but I'm not interested in playing with half stacks anyway.
We play full stacks too. Well, we plan to at shows. Right now at practice we just run a half stack. I think it is mainly an OCD thing for me.

Those are chinese copies that sell for around $300ish
You can tell by just looking at a real one, look at the pickups and hardware and inlays. I have three Rics there is no way that is one... I'll find you a link give me a sec.

I had an interesting weekend. I spent hours laughing and I spent equal amounts crying. I saw an old friend, made up with an even older friend, decided that moving in with my sister and her boyfriend might not be the best decision, and spent a lot of money on silly things like food and drink. It was worth it. I think.
samzadgan wrote:So I have been offered a trade for my amp, a guy has a MJW Roadster 18w head with a 1x12 cab. I had a look at some vids and at the website...anyone have any experience with these amps? or can anyone tell if these are Marshall Plexi style amps - which is what i think they are...
http://www.martamp.com/amps.html. The one i'm getting is a little different to the one the website, it only has a Volume, Tone, Power knobs and two inputs (suspect and high and low input)
on the Cab side, he's given me a choice between Eminence Legend 125 or WGS Reaper...neither of which i have ever had in any of my amps, so if anyone has had these before or looked at these then would be great to hear your thoughts.
I figure this would be a better deal than buying a new Ampeg GVT, based on build quality and tone...?
Oh, MJW make good quality gear. They're highly sought after in the UK. I haven't actually played one, but they're all based roughly on vintage Marshall topology, so I hear. Music Radar has a bunch of threads on them.
Eminence Legend speakers are very good. They're like a V30 without the harshness. Soldano helped make them popular. No experience with WGS Reapers.
samzadgan wrote:so whats more important in getting a thick clean tone...pre-amp tubes or output tubes? this amp I'm looking at has ECC83's and EL84's...and i'm pretty sure that's what my Blackstar had, which was ok, but my Rocker 30 has ECC83's and EL34's, and sounds really good. Does the output tubes make the difference, or is a number of other variables that aren't easy to mod?
It depends more on how the circuit manipulates the tubes than the tubes themselves. Most EL84 amps are weak and delicate, but some cook and clean with the best of them, just at lower volume thresholds. My Fryette uses those baby EL84s and it has gobs of low-end and punch. It's a Doom machine through and through. Nobody but me uses it for that, but that's what makes it so special.

Not because of what he writes but because the chapters are 1-3 pages SHORT, it's like it was written or told by a teenager. I hope the guy who wrote it for him is at fault.
Them boys knew how to party. It's probably all he can remember
